Hmmm.... Where to start. Mamma Mia, from a film prospective is quite possibly the worst film i have ever seen. The acting is wooden, which, from an amazingly talented cast is unforgivable, the direction is nowhere near tight enough and the plot is contrived and the script is poorly thought out. If you've seen the trailers then you've seen pretty much all this film has to offer from a cinematic viewpoint. However, if you're an abba fan or have seen the musical before then you're guaranteed to join the millions who already like it and have sold out the cinema screnns for the past month. Unfortunately there is very little coherence to anything the film does and feels more like a way to fit a stage musical on screen instead of adapting it for the ... Read More:

This movie is so iconic it is deeply ingrained in our culture. As a little girl, and as an adult too, we all want a magical pair of "Dorothy" shoes. The movie's message is very simple; there's no place like home. The magical world of Oz is in technicolor whereas the scenes in Kansas are in black and white. This helps to show how enticing Oz is. The characters are pretty damn good, they don't make em like that anymore. All of the characters go through a personal journey in the film; to get home, to become brave, to get a heart. The plot is as delightful as the characters and the setting, with a dash of humour added in; a must see for young and old, even my quite sensitive 6yr old daughter can handle the scarier bits. The replay value is immeasurable, I have seen ... Read More:

I can't believe you haven't seen Grease!! A classic you can watch time after time and enjoy it every time. A fresh faced duo of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John will have your feet tapping throughout.
In a violent, bloodthirsty world this is escapism for all. Enjoy

Having given one star for "Gone With the Wind" and three starts for "Breakfast at Tiffany's" friends were acusing me of not liking "girl flicks". Whatever that means.
Well I enjoyed "The Sound of Music" enormously. So there. I admit I hadn't seen it for years and it has sat for some time on the shelf before I watched it but I have to say I thought it had stood the test of time really well.Julie Andrews' voice was so effortless and perfect and the sheer magnificence of Salzburg was such a great background to the story. (Unfortunately, my holiday tape of Salzburg was taped over by my daughter when she was two - I ended up with the Smurfs - perhaps an excuse to go back).
And the special features, especially the real life story of the Familie von Trapp, ... Read More:

This film follows the character of Mary Poppins the nanny who's practically perfect in every way. This timeless classic has magical and unforgettable songs for the whole family to enjoy. And this special 40th anniversary edition has some brilliant extras from a new short story with Julie Andrews, cut songs and a documentary of the making of the film.

The title says it all, I think and the reviewer who considers it classist and misogynist has obviously failed to see the point of the movie which actually makes fun of these attitudes. Remember the scene at Mrs. Higgin's house or Alfred P. Doolite's remarks on 'middle-class morality' - hardly narrow-minded.

I never saw this when I was younger and I really wish I had. I love everything about this movie, especially the songs. I am taking singing lessons and several times I have sung the entire score. If I had to pick a favourite song, it would be a tie between, You Two, Toot Sweets, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Hushabye Mountain and Lovely Lonely Man. I really think that the behind-the-scenes team could not have picked a better cast.
