Stephen and David Dewaele's self-celebratory "Part Of The Weekend Never Dies" turns out to be a pretty solid rockumentary. It's full to the brim with namesdropping and shout-outs (in true "Teachers" style), as if the electro-house legacy was something to vent about. It even stars James Righton of The Klaxons, as bearer of the torch, even though he candidly admits he never cared much about dance music before Soulwax came around. The rest of the gang is also there: a chatty Tiga, a very relaxed James Murphy, an insightful Erol Alkan, Nancy Whang -telling the story of how "NY Excuse" came to be, Justice, Digitalism, So-Me, Busy P. of Ed Bangers Records and Peaches too.
The dicotomy between Soulwax the rock band and 2ManyDJs, the mega ... Read More:

Starting out as a simple "fly on the wall" behind the scenes on the new album, based around the interesting position the band found themselves in, starting anew without a bassist. However, when James Hetfield takes a stint in rehab and finds a new found love for his family - replacing vodka and bear hunting with playing with his son, his dog and some headphones, and taking his daughter to ballet.
The film is a compelling balance; incredibly funny, insightful and deceptively moving all rolled into one. Whether it has an almost satirical look into the musical world (see the scene where Lars is found stewing in his anger - not that that narrows it down - as they then jot down lyrics for Frantic) or a somewhat moving inspection of life ... No Direction home is a documentary over 2 discs charting the rise of Bob Dylan and his affect on music and the world.
Disc 1 is somewhat harder to watch, spending a lot of time talking to other musicians about the music scene in general, lots of live footage of other bands and not enough Dylan. While it is interesting it's more a history of folk music than a Dylan documentary.
Disc 2 follows on but features Dylan far more closely. The documentary includes a vast amount of archive footage that is fascinating to watch. Everything builds until Dylan eventually introduces electric performances to his sets and his fans cry out against him.
I have watched these discs and have a much greater appreciation for Dylan as a songwriter ... Read More:

I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife, a longterm Cohen fan, and I watched it with her, expecting to kind of enjoy it, but to my surprise I had a great time. I had distantly respected his stuff for a long time, but something about this movie made me love it.
The meat of this movie is not, unfortunately, to be found in the performances by the many guest artists covering Mr. Cohen's songs. There are, frankly, very few gold stars to be handed out. Nick Cave does a bang-up job as perhaps the only person herein who's had a weirder life than Leonard Cohen, even if Mr. Cave is starting to look and sound eerily like Neil Diamond. Teddy Thompson understands the idiom better than some people, although I couldn't help wishing that his dad were in this movie ... Read More:

The Beatles were THE group of my era and, in my opinion, have never been equalled. This DVD is a real insight into their casual humour and is a real must for anybody who remembers those great days when the Beatles gave Brits of all ages a powerful 'Feel Good Factor', something that is now almost totally lost in these days of control and being ripped of by all and sundry.

Louis theroux is a genius in my eyes and with this set you will agree, the way he works with people to bring out what they try to hide and the way he subtley exploits people with ridiculous, often offensive beliefs is wonderful. There are a few classics missing due to people not giving consent but this is still a flawless line up and a must have for louis fans, documentary fans and people with a love of wry humour
