The one thing that puzzles me in this film, and no one seems to have noticed, when Richard Burton meets Ingrid Pitt for the first time in the tavern, he whilstles the tune "Lauralie" which was written by a Jewish composer and banned in Nazi Germany. He later says that he is the brother of Himmler, if that was the case there is no way he would have chosen that tune!

If you are a fan of the Pirates series, this is a must-have. The movie is good fun, carried almost entirely on the shoulders of Johnny Depp, but the small amount of character development you see with Lee Arenberg and Mackenzie Crook (the oh so eloquent pirate) is a welcome development.
The picture quality is outstanding, and this one really shows why you should upgrade to HD at this point in time.

Comparisons to the equally beautiful 'In The Mood for Love' are well targeted here and not just because of the Tony Leung connection. Lust, Caution exhibits the same muted (almost mutilated) sexual tensions against a back drop of middle-class, Western-obsessed indifference which suffocates in a vacuum of talking without communicating. Indeed, the title is like a road sign for those wishing to escape the numbness of existence: Danger follows if unheeded...
The performances are sublime as is the photography and editing (the Mah-Jong sequences deserve a special award) but it is the direction which triumphs. Ang Lee is the unchallenged master of cinema which finds beauty in an ugly world (The Ice Storm sprung to mind on several occassions) and ... Read More:

This is close to a perfect film. Sergio Leone at his best, Henry Fonda as a bad guy, Charles Bronson as the "goodie" AND with an Ennio Morricone score. What more could you ask for?
Cinematically stunning with some incredible sequences that Leone was not afraid to linger over, a strong plot and a great script.
A truly fantastic film.

Rambo is an important movie, at least as far as I am concerned. It isn't polished entertainment; a shoot-em-up video game committed to celluloid, Rambo is raw, powerful and honest. Rambo is a war movie.
The story begins in Thailand where we find the character of Rambo relatively at peace in self imposed exile where he fishes and catches snakes. He is then asked to take a group of Christian charity workers into Burma, a war zone. The aid workers are captured by the Burmese military and Rambo once again is forced to reawaken his warrior instincts.
The film is about the conflict in Burma and it spares the viewer very little in terms of depicting the atrocities that occur there. Limbs are hacked off, children are stabbed and shot. The Burmese do not have much ... Read More:
Yes, some are better than others. Some Bonds are *certainly* better than others. But they're all the the same action-packed, no-brain-required, formulaic-but-fun glorious mess of boys' toys (explained by a grumpy 'Q' - 'DO try to pay attention, 007...'), glamor girls, explosions, wacky bad-guys and political incorrectness. Yep, this is the good stuff we've come to expect from a Bond Movie.
And then they made Casino Royale...
I'm sure a lot of people will love to see Bond reinvented like this, but if you're an old time fan like me, you won't. All the traditional elements are gone. It's all become deadly serious, to the point where it verges on being deadly dull. Or maybe ... Read More:

Watched this a few years back but couldn't get on with the animation style. It was bought as a present for my 4yo who loves it. On re-watching I didn't have the same animation prejudice simply because Tim Burton has made it more 'acceptable'. Shallow of me I know but there you go.
The Aunts are fantastic in the 'real-life' section although I couldn't get on with the boy. Pete Postlethwaite still gives me the creeps (although that's from the Sharpe TV series rather than this film).
In the animated section the bugs are all pretty good and the boy gets better.
The songs are OK but I didn't find them particularly catchy.
