"Seven samurai" (1954) is arguably Akira Kurosawa's best film, and my favourite of those made by that wonderful Japanese director. The plot of this movie is simple enough, but it is developed in a way that enriches it, by adding depth to the characters and making the spectator realize that there is more to them than meets the eye. The rigid cast division that characterized 16th century Japan is shown, and the whole period is brought to life thanks to outstanding cinematography and excellent acting.
The story begins when the inhabitants of a very small rural village start discussing what to do about the bandits that attack them from time to time, taking everything of value with them. The farmers have very few resources and hardly ... Read More:

I am going to assume most of you interested in this DVD know the story of Douglas Bader the legendary WWII fighter pilot who lost his legs, nearly died and still flew fighter planes, learnt to walk and drive again a man who simply didn't understand how to fail. An inspiration this film depicts the story of Bader and his life until the end of the war. This is a great film and one I thoroughly enjoy everytime I watch it.

I liked this film when I first saw it and now I have changed my mind with repeated watching. Like all Tarantino films, the dialogue between characters is unnatural. It feels like one person talking to themselves. The characters all talk in this faux intelligent geeky way about tiny things and there is no discernable differences between outlook or delivery of the characters words. The story doesn't hang together very well and the use of celebrity cameos is just celuloid cronyism. I fell for the hype, save your time and money and don't buy into this trash. Travolta is a fake, Jackson can't act, QT is annoying, Thurman is lovely, Keitel is cheesey and not at all hard like he makes out. There is too much wrong with this film to call it a classic. It's silly. At least ... Read More:
Quite possibly the most beautiful film of all time, this is an epic one-of-a-kind story of love, loss, friendship and hope, and a war of good vs. evil.

President James Marshall (Ford) is in danger when a group of Russian terrorists take control of Air Force One.
Wolfgang Peterson (In the line of fire) delivers a fast and tense action thriller in which Harrison Ford (Star Wars) gives a good performance as President Marshall alongside a terrific act by Gary Oldman (Dracula) as the lead terrorist Ivan Korshunov.
Ford and Oldman give good performances but the star of the show is Peterson whose action style of direction maintains the tension and delivers excitement and claustrophobia on all the right levels, as does the writing by Andrew Marlowe.
The film gets off to the right start with a group of agents parachuting into General Radek's mansion and kidnapping him, laying down the tone for the plot to ... Read More:

This has great performances from Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman, and while it's not in the same league as Leon the Professional (also directed by Luc Besson), there's a lot to enjoy here.

I'm almost embarrassed that I thought it was good when I was a kid. Because I was too young to understand the bad points and let's face it, we don't have high demands of quality when we are young. I thought power rangers had good acting then... riiight moving swiftly on.
Anyway I watched it again a year or so ago when it was on TV and realised just how innocent I must have been.
Not only is this film crap, but its pro American theme that is used to carry the story really made me cringe... HARD.
Its like a serious version of Team America. I'm sure the point of this was to have Americans coming out of the "Movie Theatre" (Cinema to you and I) jumping up and down with their lassoes screaming YEAH!!! YEAH!!!. But what are the rest of us meant to do?
