The problem with Hard drives is that their not all 100% reliable yet. You'd be an idiot to back up very important data only on one hard drive as there is always the possibility of failing. That's why I feel it's unfair to judge solely on the 1 star reviews of people who've lost all the data because they've stupidly put all their valuable data only on this hard drive. Like all Hard drives you have to be careful with it. Don't drop it or spill any liquid on it. Avoid traveling with the item and ideally try not to use it too regularly.
Anyway, I've currently have had this machine for three months now and filled it fully up. So far there's been no problems whatsoever. The data is still there. Other plus points include the nice sleek ... Read More:

The western digital size passport/mybook drives are too small for this case, however they can be held within due to the elastic strp holding it snug. The case opens up in two one side for the drive and the other for cables or other stuff you'd like to keep. I prefer to keep the included cable with the passport drive which also helps to stop the small drive moving around. On the other side I keep a longer double headed lindy cable (used for older machines where one usb slot is not enough power, so two slots are required) this stops the drive moving the vertically and not put a strain on the strap.
The outer material is a tough protective shell which has a woven feel, to enusre you can keep a grip. Though I would have expected interally for ... Read More:

Well worth the money. My one isn't noisy at all apart from a faint whine when first turned on.Does not seem to get warm even with a lot of use.The U.S.B. cable is a bit on the short side though.Simple, cheap, does what it says on the box.Well impressed!!TrekStor DataStation maxi n.u a 3.5" External Hard Drive. 160GB SATA - USB 2

This product does exactly what it says on the tin.
The drive can be used with or without the encryption/synchronisation software. The software is easy to use and offers 128bit encryption of the backed up data. Thankfully, it is not bloated with un-necessary features and looks pretty much like MS Windows Explorer, giving you access to the backed up drives/folders as if you were accessing them on the master PC. It also will backup and give access to your outlook file system and calendar and to your favourite browser's bookmarks/favourites.
It truly is a plug and play solution for those who need to carry their sensitive (or not) data with them. So, if you are a teacher/lecturer and need to roam from one PC to another, or if you want ... Read More:

Just got mine today. It's excellent. Plug and play, with a whopping 320gigs for something that's thinner and lighter than my textbooks.
Much as i love my laptop, i find it can be a pain in the ear to lug around from from home, to work, to college, then back home... especially when there's computer access at all 3 locations.
Transfer is super fast as well - unlike my USB sticks which can sometimes struggle a bit.
Very quiet, and fits into my tough old PDA case (now that PDAs are kinda obsolete with all the iPhones lol).

Four months after buying this drive, its power supply failed. This is apparently quite a common problem with this make of drive - just Google Seagate power supply fail. No help from Seagate. No way to replace the power supply without buying *another* hard drive! I'm not buying anything else from Seagate, and I urge you not to as well: their aftercare sucks.

I had been looking for an external hard drive for a few months, in order to backup my computer and also save music on to. I wanted one that was not too cheap but not too expensive and easy to use. After reading reviews on a number of websites, I plumped for this one and so far I'm certain I've made the right choice.
First impressions were that its design was neat and stylish and that it was smaller, but heavier than I expected, which is no bad thing. I wanted an easy setup and the Freecom hard drive gives you just that. You plug it into the mains, then plug it in via USB to your computer and it's as simple as that. After confirming the presence of the new hard drive, I started dragging and dropping files and after about an hour and a half, I'd transferred about ... Read More:

I bought this just over a few days ago. Transferred over 500 gb of data (documents, videos, music files etc). A few days later, I wanted to add more data to it but when I turned it on it was not being recognised by the PC. Blue light was on, disc was spinning but not appearing on the desktop. tried it on a friends computer and his laptop but still no success.
I have owned the 500gb version for a year or more and it NEVER gave me any problems. You want 1TB? Buy two of the 500gb ones!!! OR face the risk of files being lost...NOT WORTH THE RISK!!!
