I got into minidisc 10 years ago - saw it fade as hard disc and flash players came along. I bought my first Hi-MD machine (MZ-NH1) 4 years ago to keep my hand in with the format, but also dabbled with hard disc and flash (yes they are convenient for storing several gigabytes of music and gimmicky video if that's your style). But when it comes down to functionality and real music features nothing can touch minidisc.

The MZ-RH1 is the pinnicle of MD development - record in full CD quality (PCM) as well as at the highest quality compressed bit-rates. "Record" being THE word here - try recording digitally at PCM onto an i-pod, or other flash/HD machine. No chance.

HiMD is perfect for portable audio. The sound quality is excellent, with even the cheaper players beating any MP3 player produced to date. Less susceptible to shocks or drops than HD players & with removable batteries they last a LOT longer than your average iPod. The comparatively lower capacity can be a downside but what good is it to have all your music with you when it all sounds rubbish because it's being played on sub-standard equipment???

I have a HD mini disk bought from Amazon very cheap £60 for the 900 model I like MD but not so keen on Sony these days, software, DRM etc. So 4* for the MD and 1 gig disk.

Like the other review watch out for the EBay type sellers here £0.45p is not the cost, they actually charge £5 delivery for EACH disk, no discount for multi purchase.
Get these seller off Amazon they should be made to advertise correctly for the full price or limit the maximum delivery by true postage costs smells like a con.

I got the Sony MZ-NH600 Silver Hi-MiniDisc Walkman for my 40th Birthday on 23rd February 2005 from my dear Mum who sadly died of cancer on 16th July 2007.

I have been a great fan of Sony products for many years. MiniDisc is the best as far as I am concerned. From the original to MD-LP and now to this fantastic HI-MD format where you can download fron CD or the Internet music up to 45 hours on one of these excellent discs. You can even download documents and photographs on to these discs to. I have not experienced any trouble except if you do not pre-format each disc before recording on to it you may lose data and even a whole disc of music. i got my Hi MD around 9 months ago and in that time there has not been one problem. Ive dropped it once knocked it around a few times
but nothing happened so its pretty durable.

i have got around 700 songs on one 1gb disc compared to the i pod mini which gets 1000 songs in 4 gb.

the remote is extremely useful you can keep the MD in your pocket and still control everything.

The battery life is quality up to 30 hours on one AA battery.

the only problem is the head phones but you can always buy new ones

the best walkman i have owned im sure you will feel the same.

Sony MZE310S Mini Disc Player Silver

My friend recently bought the Sony MzE310s minidisc player and was thoroughly pleased with it, this has I'm affraid got me into minidisc fever and I can really see the advantages. The minidisc player works smoothly from the start no problems there really are no down sides to this product except maybe the lack of an in-line remote. I whole heartedly endorse this product.

it is a very useful case to have and protects your mini disc player nicely. there are only a few down falls: when you wear it on your arm it sticks out a lot and could be banged into.The arm strap is too big even when it is on as tight as can be. The apperance is very nice and i would use it for sport as well as around the house. The mini disc player fits nicely but it is a bit too tight to fit in a minidisc as well.

but over all it is the a very good perchase and is valuble!!!

Sony RM-NWS1 Remote Control for NWA1000 / NWA3000 MP3 Players

I've had this for 6 months now. It is functional and means you dont have to take it out of your pocket/holder to play, pause, skip, scan and adjust volume. But this is all you can do with this remote.

Other remotes that Sony have produced in the past have been much better. You can gain access to options within the unit such as sound equaliser, sleep functions etc. Its a shame you cannot change artist, album etc through this remote. It is plastic, but if it was metal it would probably fall to the floor when clipped onto clothing.

Only buy this if you find yourself taking your walkman out of your pocket alot and be aware it has limited functionality, if you want to change album, artist etc you will be dipping into your pocket even with this.
