"Apple vs. all other vendors" banter aside... this is a brilliant piece of kit.
I was on the lookout for a jukebox player seeing as I made the transition from casual listening to complete and utter audiophilia. Consequently, I began to rip mp3s at a high bit rate 320kbps; enjoying the greater sound quality of the music (couldn't believe what I had been missing)... Sounds amazing through my system. This led to my library size increasing almost four-fold. So my little 8GB Creative ZEN (the credit card sized unit) was no longer of favour (that even couldn't fit everything I had in my library, albeit at smaller file sizes/bit rates as well!).
And then there's this little beauty.
It accomodates to my huge library. ... Read More:

ipod shuffle is still an ipod but it lacks feature that are most mp3 players.
1. There is no display screen
2. There is no way to check the battery life
However the quality of the music is better that most mp3 players making it useful.
If you can extend your money buy a nano, classic or even a touch.

I bought my iPod touch last Christmas and fell in love with it immedietly. However... now, after just nine or ten months it has already started to 'play up'. It pauses randomly and sometimes i can see the time slider going through a song but no sound. i took it back to the apple shop, they put the new updates on it (free of charge i'd like to say ;)) but i still have the same problem i.e keeps pausing randomly.
i would suggest that you don't buy the iPod touch as i am completely convinced that mine will stop working altogether JUST after my one year gurantee runs out. proof of this: my friend and her sister both bought an iPod on the same day last year and just after their one year gurantee ran out... they both stopped working within hours ... They made ipods more techical over the years. When I first put my ipod in I was asked to create an itunes account which luckly I already had one so that was easy. They promised voice recording I don't see that on the menu of my ipod. Screen too small for video I don't know why nano went video anyway as the ipod classic can do that and it's better on it. I also didn't accept my ipod charger which worked on my 1st gen nano and even touch. This doesn't just apply to blue 8GB nanos, it applies to all 4th gen ipod nanos.

I can't help but ask: What does the 4th generation ipod nano have which makes it better than its predecessor?
The size and styling harks back to the much earlier ipod nano's. This was obviously something which apple then moved on from with the sleek but "chunky" styling of the 3rd gen. models.
Screen - On these 4th gen. versions, the screen is exactly the same dimensions as the previous model, except it is curved. I don't understand this - over the past ten years or so, all of our screens have been moving away from the curved thing, because we all know that curved screens = more reflection = less easy viewing. One of the style and practical features of all ipods was always the flat screen.

This iPod looked dodgy ever since it came out. It looks more or less a miniature version of the ipod classic. It's just £50 than a classic. This only store 8 GB while classic store 80 GB and it has no extra features whatsoever. Finally the 4th generation is out and that can do things the classic can't so don't buy this.

I've had one of these for a couple of weeks now and so far, it's fantastic. When these came out, I thought it'd be an ideal time to replace my old 2nd gen Nano.
I cannot fault the design at all. It's very similar to the design of the 2nd gen Nano in ways and it's very sensible. I don't know why they designed the 3rd gen Nanos the way they did... it was taking a step backwards. The design of this Nano is excellent. It is a good aluminium casing, which doesn't get covered in fingerprints and doesn't scratch easily (the colour choices are fantastic too!), the screen and click wheel are well placed and the screen is the perfect size. The curved design works tremendously well... in width and height, there's hardly any difference between this and my 2nd gen Nano, ... Read More:

I have half filled my two week old ipod classic with 7500 songs, and it has just lost all the cover art. It started to show signs of freezing up - slow to respond in cover flow mode, then nothing. I can get it to play manually selected tracks still, but if it's getting temperamental when half full is there any point in trying to put the rest of my music library on it?
I am NOT impressed.
3 stars only because 80gb for £150 is cheap compared to its comtetitors and, as you'd expect, it looks nice.. It does not, however, do everything that the glossy ads say it will do, and i'm not confident that it won't end up causing me loads of grief.
