I do a lot of presentations with my job, and wanted a reliable & simple means of controlling Powerpoint etc remotely. This does the job perfectly.
It's plug & Play (both on my XP machine, and also my MacBook) and has controls to enable you to: -
1. Move forward (i.e. page down in PPT)
2. Move backward (i.e. page up in PPT)
3. Blank the screen (i.e. pressing B in PPT)
4. Fire the laser pointer
It fits nicely into the hand, too, and the USB receiver stick clicks into the body of the handset for easy storage. Obviously it works for other applications, too, and not just Powerpoint. It just emulates the keypresses shown above, so you can view PDFs, Word docs etc in the same ... Read More:

Yes its nice and small, but what nobody has pointed out (i found out after i bought one) is that its only good for about 200mm distance from behind the camera (assuming your infra Red receiver on the camera is at the front. I have a Canon 450D and the receiver is front right ie near the hand grip.
This is no good for taking a picture from a few meters behind the camera.
Very disappointing as this isn't pointed out anywhere.
Ive now bought the Radio wireless remote (about £20+del) and that works to a max distance of 100m.
If you just want to use this remote right at the camera or infront, you'll be fine.
UPDATE.: used my new radio wireless remote now, and its awesome for my use, works from anywhere, never missed ... Read More:
Logitech is a company that you have to respect, you can buy their products with folded eyes. I bought this presenter after an extensive research since I'm a technologist and for me, buying technology is the most tedious process ever. After I opened the package and inserted the batteries I plugged the USB dungle into my XP machine and it just worked with PowerPoint with zero hassle, the more exciting bit is when I plugged it into my Linux Ubuntu laptop with OpenOffice ... exactly the same, works straight out of the box. I would happily give this product 5 stars ... it looks professional, it feels professional ... simply fantastic !!!

I've 'only' given 4 stars as the device is not perfect: what do you expect for a bottom-of-the-range product? However, it performs very well, has a reasonable range, etc. I've just passed mine on to my son and have ordered another.
I have struggled to get one of these. Other internet vendors are unable to get stock from Logitech. The suggestion is that Logitech are producing the Boom in order to promote it heavily and keep letting vendors and their customers down so I was surprised when Amazon/Pimxania had any. Pix call it a Wireless Network Player although everyone else calls it the Classic. Not sure why. Logitech need to realise that setting stock delivery dates that they repeatedly fail to meet is annoying people. Plus why put all your eggs in a product which will never be hifi when the success of the range thus far has been a decent DAC which only appeals to nerds (like me.)
Anyhoo, it has now arrived. Well packaged. I set ... Read More:

I bought this item with some trepidation, mainly on account of a number of reviews casting doubt on its durability. If I needed it every day this factor might have tipped me into buying a more expensive version, but as my requirement is relatively infrequent I've decided to take the risk.
I've only had it for a few days, but so far I'm very pleased. It worked "out of the box" with Vista, with no connectivity glitches as yet.
The device has two modes. In "presenter mode," the main buttons enable forward-slide, backward-slide, start and stop presentation, and blank screen. There is a perfectly adequate laser pointer, only operational in presenter mode. In "mouse mode," the central control acts as a joystick for cursor movement (with, incidentally, ... Read More:

Although this Sony remote is well made and robust it is advertised as the suffix 't' model.( 't' for Teletext I presume ). However, when it arrived (viaUSA?) it DOES NOT have dedicated Teletext oolour coded buttons. This might not bother some customers, but I would prefer the UK version for ease of use.

The Apple Remote (NOT iPod remote as some people think it's sole purpose is) is an excellent solution for control from distance. I bought this for my MacBook so I could control iTunes from across the room, and be able to use Front Row while sitting down. Both can be done effortlessly!
Buttons included are Menu, Volume + and -, Track Forwards and Backwards, and Play/Pause. Note that these buttons ultimately become Left, Right, Up, Down, and OK buttons on Front Row, which surfaces Apples innate ability to give simplicity a new definition.
Somehow, incredibly, the remote can be used without even pointing it at the MacBook. Since it's Infa Red, I really don't understand this! It's incredible. But since you must actually pair the MacBook/iMac with the remote ... Read More:
