This will not work without a proper aerial, therefore is not really portable. You can use it as a 'set-top box' to turn your analogue TV at home into a digital one to pick up Freeview etc. but these boxes cost next to nothing these days in the shops, so you're better off either getting a cheap one from a store or buying a proper TV with a built-in one.

Don't be fooled by the positive descriptions of this thing, which were probably written by employees of the the vendor. Its not worth the money.

This is great unit for the money, the picture quality is unbelievably good. I did struggle to get the freeview channels on the indoor aerial but once connected to the house aerial there was no problem at all. The only thing I would say against it is that if you want to play music DVD's the sound is a little "tinny" and you may be disappointed but as a tv and dvd (film) player it is brilliant. Not only that it looks good too.

This Television installed the digital channels itself automatically without any difficulty, same for the analogue stations. The screen size is excellent on the desktop here where a 14" screen would have been way too large.

The only negative factor is that despite the remote control and the handbook describing Teletext reception, I couldn't receive it at all. An e-mail to the supplier has just now disclosed that this set doesn't support teletext apparently.

This is a neat product. The only flaw is that the ariel options that it ships with are not quite sufficient to draw down a good signal.

I am sure that if you are close to an actual transmitter that it would work perfectly...however this is not the idea of a portable unit.

Take it anywhere and you will need to look for some alternative ariel solutions, or if you are near a transmitter and you are laughing.

I bought one of these units for my son for Christmas 2007.
The unit was dispatched very quickly from `Allcam World of Portables' although their chosen courier (Citylink) is quite simply appalling. They delivered it to someone half way up the road & never even attempted to deliver it here. After calling City Link many times, we managed to locate & recover the parcel!
The box for the DVD player/TV doesn't give any indication that this unit has Freeview & quotes Model No. PTDVD-768. Having bought this unit as a present, I didn't want to remove the outer cellophane from the box or, break the seal to check. I e-mailed Allcam & they were adamant that the unit did have Freeview. How useful you find this will depend very much on your expectations and application. At this price-point the feature-set is impressive - but also it's weakness.

Including a Freeview decoder in a portable device is always going to be problematic. For myself, I never really expected to receive digital channels using the portable aerial. Although transmission signals in my area are good, I live on the 1st floor of a block of flats and there's a lot of concrete and brick between me and Crystal Palace.

Using a feed from the rooftop aerial, reception is OK. Again, this is challenged as the aerial feed is shared. Reception on the busier Freeview multiplexes with less bandwidth (e.g. all the Five channels) is variable. This ... Read More:
