I admit to being a total gadget freak, and I bought this little gem because I spend 3 hours a day on a train. Even with my gadget dedication, I sometimes find the gadgets I buy a little too complicated, and often end up not using them as they should be used. Imagine then, my delight, when I discovered how easy the Archos is to use. I set it up to record programmes I don't have time for in the evenings and watch them on the way to work in the mornings. I've converted DVDs and loaded them onto the Archos, and I took the entire season of Huff with me on holiday - in case of bad weather. Archos 705 WiFi 160GB Portable Media Player 7" Touch Screen

Incredibly poor customer support.
Archos will only deal with its customers problems if you have a WMA number which you can only get after queueing on their premium rate "support" lines. Support lines are off hand to rude. Goods returned not fixed.

This is a real draw back as Archos' appear inheritantly glitchy.

I bought this about 4 months ago. I have had nothing but trouble since I bought it. It wont sync properly, it only lasts about 2 hours while playing music, half the time it wouldn't turn on, files are "corrupt" and won't play. I bought the Cinema, podcast and web browser plug ins for around 55 quid or something rediculous like that and one of them didnt work! This product seems cheap but will end up costing over £100 extra for all the features (which don't work). My 2 friends that have the player have also had the same issues. My advice: steer clear of this. Buy an Ipod Touch

Having read the above reviews from the DVR I do wonder if perhaps I have a faulty unit. The unit acts as a 'pass-through' when my Archos 704 wifi isn't docked, i.e. phono connection from recording source (there is a supplied Scart adaptor to convert from phono) and phono to Scart out (I can't understand why the phono connectors are all gold plated, but the scart connectors are not). Sat next to my Panasonic 32" LCD the picture quality is notably degraded on the TV, partuculary when seeing any text on the screen). Play back of recorded stuff on the Archos is reasonable enough, but I can't put up with the degraded picture quality on my TV for the bulk of the time when my Archos is not in use (The docking station does have S-video in/out which I have not yet ... Archos 405 2GB Portable Media Player 3.5" Screen

I have owned 3 Archos PMP units now and bought this one due to its attractive price and really portable size with flash memory.
My impression of the sound quality is excellent. The sound is 'warmer' than an Ipod nano (which I own I am not an Ipod hater!).
The video performance whilst not as good as the Archos 605 is still very good and near DVD quality. I have now watched a couple of full length movies with no eyesight problems!
Although the flash memory is small at 2GB it is very cheaply upgradeable and I have currently a 4GB SD card installed.
I would agree with other reviewers buying the plug-ins is a pain but it is a well known issue on the internet, at least customers have the option. The docking unit is also really needed to utilise ... Read More:

Archos 404 - 30GB Slim Portable Multimedia Player

I bought this just as another MP3 player with a huge size and lo what i found was - its marvelous

You can store most of your documents and pictures as well as your entire favourite music gallery and yet - there is always space in it...

It has never disappointed with its battery life so far - and is a wonderful and strong player compared to others....

However, people may find it difficult to carry - due to its bulk - for me this has never been a problem. I have a small wallet - large enough to zip my beloved archos in it and carry with me when i am jogging or on the move...

Its a wonderful library of movies, songs and ebooks for me - though i have never used it to read any of the ebooks!
