Archos 40GB Mini Hard Disk Drive with USB 2.0

Plugged HD into various PC's USB2 ports. All of them used some version of either Windows 2000 or XP and I did not experience any difficulties.

However, beware of pluging it into the USB port of laptops (e.g. D600 from Dell) as the USB standard spec does not supply enough power. You need the external power supply or a powered USB hub. Quite disappointing to have this nice portal drive and needing the extra power...

i have owned a gmni xs200 for a couple of years and have not regretted buying it once. my nine yr old wanted an mp3 player and so naturally i went for a similar thing. the xs100 operates in exactly the same way as the xs 200, with no additional software needed, just drag and drop the files required.She was made up i could get it in pink, and in my opinion it is much better than a similar ipod i bought for my older daughter which she has had endless trouble with.The only reason i haven't given it 5 stars is it seems it can only be charged via the usb port, but other than that its the business.

Archos AV700 100GB Mobile Digital Video Recorder

I placed the order Thursday evening and by Tuesday evening DHL had delivered the Archos - amazing. Well done Avides. I originally wanted this to use in my VW van but now use it in the house. It's a top quality product - I'm loading my DVD collection on in stages - and it's brill to be able to set the schedule function to record from Sky while I'm out or in bed. I've also recorded programmes off my sky plus hard drive - it's going to be amazing for films over Christmas! It comes with black protective case and adaptors to be able to charge in UK, USA and Europe. The pod works brilliantly for download and charging. Next step is to load on the holiday snaps.

Got mine about 6 months ago and, at first, it was a great MP3 player, small, light, very good battery life although noticed the hard drive did make an off-putting "clicking" noise

After 5 months it packed-up with a hard drive failure although as under warranty I sent it back to the UK distributors - who then took 3 WEEKS to repair it.

Got it back, new hard drive, but now refuses point blank to talk to my PC although my nephews (identical make & model) does with no problems - so mine seems to be still faulty.

Not happy and will not buy one of these again - too much hassle when it goes wrong - which you would not expect after only 6 months.

VERY disappointed.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas. It was easy to use and transfer files and music to. The size was nice and small but with a clear screen which was one of the things that attracted me to it. Within a month though it stopped responding. Whenever it was turned on the drive just span and clicked for a while then eventually turned itself off. I tried all sorts to fix it but nothing worked. As it had only been used maybe a dozen times we were not very happy. Thanks to Amazons great returns service I sent it back and got a quick refund. Very disappointed after such a promising start. Would not buy another hard drive based product from Archos.
