The only other (I assumed impartial) review of this product rated it so highly, I bought it without hesitation. Performance is, however, disappointing. It falls significantly short of the expectation created by the description "powerful, long-range". Tested over open countryside, we found that reception begins to break up at around 0.5km....which represents no real improvement over the old BT Freeway FM two-way radio we were planning to replace.

I bought this for my elderly father. His sight, even with glasses, is not brilliant, he uses 2 hearing aids, he sometimes turns up the volume on his TV right round to 11, and he does not like novelties and complications.

Check this phone out against that:
- My own sight is atrocious, but even I can use buttons that big without my glasses. Dad was convinced.
- Dad tells me the sound is clear enough without his hearing aids in. He really likes that, he doesn't always use his earing aids.
- This phone has a modest but visible lamp that flashes when the phone rings. Dad has the phone in line of sight when he's watching the television, so he should see most of the calls he used to miss. He likes that.
