Orbit 9.2" Portable DVD Player with TV, Freeview, Game, USB

Does just about everything you could expect. Digital TV reception okay with my own indoor aerial (Film 4 and BBC 3 a bit dodgy). There is supposed to be a wake up timer (also used for the recording function) but there doesn't seem to be a standby function so you can only power off using the mains switch! Leave it on and it will initiate recording at the set time. Unit can't be used as a Freeview box because the A/V output only works for DVD. Plugging in the mains adapter doesn't disable the battery so it will start charging as soon as the the power switch is turned off - not good for battery life.

Bought this item as I felt it was the best budget player alround player for the price, based on the reviews. Having bought the unit I am happy with it. The picture quality is good but not excellent you can see some scanlines and at times you can notice slight banding. Picture quality is best with DVD and Divx, playback is good and text is generally sharp. It plays back most DivX films but I have found some it won't play, but plays majority.

I also bought this Player to hook upto my Gamecube and PS2 as a small monitor. You will need a A/V cable for your console with the standard yellow, red and white phono connectors. I bought one of these units for my son for Christmas 2007.
The unit was dispatched very quickly from `Allcam World of Portables' although their chosen courier (Citylink) is quite simply appalling. They delivered it to someone half way up the road & never even attempted to deliver it here. After calling City Link many times, we managed to locate & recover the parcel!
The box for the DVD player/TV doesn't give any indication that this unit has Freeview & quotes Model No. PTDVD-768. Having bought this unit as a present, I didn't want to remove the outer cellophane from the box or, break the seal to check. I e-mailed Allcam & they were adamant that the unit did have Freeview. Despite some of the poor reviews, I purchased this item about a month ago.

The screen is bright and clear with on screen controls for colour, contrast, aspect ratio, TV tuner etc. The TV tuner is pretty good, it picks up the four major channels using the aerial supplied (I cannot get ch5 on my main set) AND it makes a great portable monitor for a camcorder!!

Pretty much everything you could ever need is in the box.

Ever bought something that said you can connect it to 'xxx', use it with 'yyy' but when you looked in the box the required connector wasn't there and reading the manual, it stated 'Optional extra - not supplied' or similar --- Irritating isn't it!.

This device couldn't even detect my O2 SIM card, and appears to have no useful features at all. Presumably with some SIMs it might work smoothly, but if it fails to recognise yours there are no settings to adjust, no options, nothing.

This device couldn't even detect my O2 SIM card, and appears to have no useful features at all. Presumably with some SIMs it might work smoothly, but if it fails to recognise yours there are no settings to adjust, no options, nothing.
