I have recently installed two of these: one for myself using the native wifi capability of my new laptop (so no need for the dongle); and one for a neighbour using the dongle which comes with the package.

I have to admit it was a fiddly process and required a bit of trial and error, but once I had read the manual and got to grips with the security settings it started to make sense and started to work. Consequently, the set up on the second machine was much more straighforward.

I think the biggest task is to become familiar with all the little extras that you need to know about wireless networking above and beyond what you may have picked up from using an ethernet router. You need to persevere through the learning ... Read More:

Philips 1.3MP USB Webcam 90fps

Despite promises of a secure stand that can be used with desktop monitors or laptops I was not able to get the camera to fit securely anywhere. The hinge on the stand was loose and the weight of the cable was enough to move it.

From my limited use the picture quality seemed to be very good and responded well to varying light levels. The sound quality from the microphone was adequate though not exceptional.

However after a couple of days I became so frustrated with the useless stand that I returned it to Amazon for a refund.

OK, the bad - as said by other reviewers, the amplifier is cumbersome, there is some low level hiss and I'll add to that that the actual wires don't seem to hang too well and bunch up.

However, the amplifier really delivers! Yes, the bass is noticeable, but the amp delivers throughout the range seriously improving sound quality over any standard earphones or earbuds.

The low level hiss is only noticeable when you're not actually playing any music and is generated from the amp, so it can be stopped simply by turning the amplifier off.

There isn't too much you can do about the annoying wires - it seems that this is why the units are so well priced (to my mind), the manufacturer has cut corners where it's prudent ... Read More:

Philips MCB204/05 MP3/WMA Micro Hi-Fi System

The DAB radio is one of the best I have tried (in the fringe area where I live) for reception and stability, by contrast FM reception is poor with the fixed wire antenna, an external aerial connector would have been useful. CD/MP3/wma and USB all play well and the sound quality, though not hi-fi, is good. Remote buttons rather small. Tape cassette is very basic and limited to manual operation only. Flimsy build but good value at this price.

This item has some great features but is let down by it's very unintuitive operating menu.
Simple things such as playing a multi region DVD are not possible, the system appears to conflict with a number of features ( requiring it to be reset at the plug)and it took 3 days for the system to recognise TV Guide listings.
Not for me....

Bought this DAB portable radio and found that the reception on many channels was poor. When storing preset stations and then selecting them, the radio would play a different channel to the one selected! It is easy to accidently
press the scan button only to find you have lost all your stored stations.
The battery life is very poor so use rechargeabe ones but need to charge each day by removing them and placing in a seperate charger!

Would not buy another one.

Philips SRM 5100 - Microsoft Vista 4 In 1 Remote Control

I needed to combine my AMP, TV and Media Centre remote into one. Choose this cos of it's looks and programmability.

Works a treat with my AMP (Denon) and TV (Sharp) and Media Centre. The other remotes are now neatly hiding in the drawers somewhere.

It also looks the business, i.e. not cheap.
