After much umming and aaing I purchased this radio in March 2008. I bought it through Amazon, the radio being supplied by 'Advanced MP3 Players' ,a company based in Scotland. Very impressed with the speed of delivery ( 3 working days ). I drive trucks for a living, some of which have very naff radios so i was looking for something i could take with me, and power through a 12volt cigarette lighter socket.
This radio works suits my purpose perfectly. However it isn't a HiFi system, there is no bass, treble or tone control which may account for some reviews being critical of the sound quality. I have noticed some vibration/distortion of the sound quality at higher volumes, cured by turning the volume down ( not rocket science is it ).

Firstly I too bought this relatively on a bargain, but i was disappointed instantly. Set-up and navigation is pretty easy. My primary use for this is a radio alarm clock, this i found to be be its weakest attribute. The unit does not remember the alarm position every day, therefore you have to set the alarm every day. The switches are very unreliable. To activate the menu button and set the alarm, it does not work all the time. The signal is also patchy, i would set the alarm and radio station (which i was listening to previous night) then in the morning when the alarm is due the radio has lost its signal failing to wake me up!! The volume options are just rubbish, it is stepped up or down rather than being linear, therefore option of loud, louder or quite. ... Read More:

I purchased one of these around 8 months ago and its been fine right up until the new year. After that point it has problems identifying what day it is.
The alarm menu has an option to only go off on Mon-Fri (ideal for work) and since Jan 1st this has been going off Sun-Thurs.
The actual date the clock radio displays is correct but the alarm triggers on days its not supposed to.
Alba recommended I reset the date manually but once the radio comes on it resets itself and we're back to step #1 again.
I've checked around on the internet and it appears other people are having the same problem with the item so it looks like its a programming error with the product rather than just a one off defective item.

As with our other Pure DAB radio (Pure One)the reception, sound quality and functions such as the ability to pause and pre-programme to record to SD card are fantastic.
Be warned however that the performance as a clock radio is likely to disappoint some. As others have stated the glow from the display, even on the lowest setting, still lights the room and we certainly couldn't sleep with this. The only option is to set the display so that is switches off completely on standby. Whilst this does the trick you are unable to see the time during the night without hitting the 'light up' button.
The other frustrating point is the noisy, 'clicky' buttons. Sounds picky I know, but this is a problem when you set the alarm while your partner is already asleep. ... Read More:
I bought this radio to use whilst on holiday in a touring caravan away from mains electricity. It runs batteries flat in 4 to 6 hours making it very expensive to use as a battery operated radio.
Even the mains transformer gets quite hot as the radio requires 1.5 amps at 6.5 volts.
The radio can be connected to a PA system via several sockets; analogue L & R phono, digital, and via the earphone sockets. The FM radio sound is quite good, and the DAB is incredible.
EPG takes some time for the radio to download and display, but once running the information is quite useful.
Now looking for rechargeable batteries and a good charger.
I listened to pretty much every table radio before I bought the R1, and there's nothing better out there (IMHO). I also listened to pretty much every iPod speaker system, and while there may be better (the Fatman for instance) there's nothing to beat the R1 at this price or close to this size.
The control system is simple, smooth and intuitive. Styling is discrete, and with the unit's diminutive size, blends effortlessly into any environment. Tuning to every DAB station is accomplished with one touch of a single button. The sound is refined and full, though with perhaps a touch of hardness in the upper vocal range when listened to directly on axis. Despite the small box size, bass control is good and extension reasonable. Volume is sufficient to fill a decent sized room, ... Read More:

Having had this micro system a month now, it still rocks my boat.Sound quality is perfect, even at high volumes it does not sound boomy. This baby rocks, i have hooked all my mp3 players to it with ease.Even hook my laptop to it to listen to my tunes, and the sound from my dvds are far better than the laptop tinny sound.Ripping is a breeze to use.It is awesome system for the price,it is in piano black and matches all my gadgets cool.LOVE IT.
