I bought the MP170 to (hopefully) replace my Realistic ZEN for no other reason than upgrading to DAB.
OK yes I'm aware that DAB isn't all it was cracked up to be and service providers are deserting it hand over fist but.......
Anyway I already have DAB receivers in my house. None are on external antennae, all just on their telescopic whips. These all work. Some better than others and yes it varies from room to room.
The MP170 however uses the headphone lead as it's antenna - and it's worse than useless.
Now I am line of sight from the Crystal Palace/Beulah Hill masts where I am led to understand that my local DAB signals emanate from.
As I say my existing receivers work all through my house.

Having bought the Revo Pico WiFi and discovered the advantages of WiFi radio I was keen to correct the biggest weakness with the Pico i.e. no time functions.

The reviews of ALL the various WiFi alarm clocks were consistently bad. So after picking through them I decided to stick with the Revo brand.

The problem is the quantity of buttons aggrevated by a lack of differentiation. Surely an alarm clock should have prominent tactile buttons for sleep and alarm functions. The WiFi options can be lost elsewhere.

So my main complaint is the lack of ergonomic design for something to be used when one is unlikely to be most alert or have the best lighting.

Roberts MP30 Radio

I bought this radio to use whilst on holiday in a touring caravan away from mains electricity. It runs batteries flat in 4 to 6 hours making it very expensive to use as a battery operated radio.
Even the mains transformer gets quite hot as the radio requires 1.5 amps at 6.5 volts.
The radio can be connected to a PA system via several sockets; analogue L & R phono, digital, and via the earphone sockets. The FM radio sound is quite good, and the DAB is incredible.
EPG takes some time for the radio to download and display, but once running the information is quite useful.
Now looking for rechargeable batteries and a good charger.

Firstly I too bought this relatively on a bargain, but i was disappointed instantly. Set-up and navigation is pretty easy. My primary use for this is a radio alarm clock, this i found to be be its weakest attribute. The unit does not remember the alarm position every day, therefore you have to set the alarm every day. The switches are very unreliable. To activate the menu button and set the alarm, it does not work all the time. The signal is also patchy, i would set the alarm and radio station (which i was listening to previous night) then in the morning when the alarm is due the radio has lost its signal failing to wake me up!! The volume options are just rubbish, it is stepped up or down rather than being linear, therefore option of loud, louder or quite.

This DAB radio is well worth the extra money.

For:

1. It holds onto stations our old Pure Evoke used to lose

2. Beautiful tone

3. Looks the biz

4. Has a live pause button (or rewind)
(thought that would be just a gimmick - but we use it a lot!

5. DAB and FM tuners; battery/mains; headphone and line out sockets; screen is where it should be - on the TOP (when is your radio ever at eye level?); stereo speakers; treble and bass controls; carrying handle

Just the price really. But buying a cheaper one could be a false saving. MUCH better than the Pure.
