I bought the Sennheiser HD435 after my PMX-100's broke. I loved the PMX-100 and was very tempted to buy another pair for only £20, but decided, since i only really use my headphones in the car, about 1 hour a day, i might as well buy a more robust pair, sacrificing the ability to store them in my pocket.

I was glad i did, the HD435s are an amazing pair of headphones, the bass is easily as good as my dad's HD595 (£80-100) headphones. The general sound outperforms the PMX-100s by quite a bit and when you have these headphones on, you can hardly hear anything else.

I was very undecided after reading mixed reviews for this type of product but have been very please. They make a tremendous difference with regular noise. I find that on Aeroplanes they make a great reduction to the engine noise. if you listen to the movie or your IPOD at a comfortable level with the noise reduction on, and then turn it off, the background noise completely drowns the music. This just shows how effective they are. Being able to listen at this queiter level is good for your ears and general tiredness. The sound quality is very reasonable.
The phones have to be fitted carefully, and become uncomfortable after about 3 hrs. I find theat when I don't want to listen to music, I can just put them on to reduce noise levels.

As to the unit itself:-
1) Not very sensitive. I now live near High Wycombe, not I think an area of high signal strength, but hardly out in the sticks. The unit struggles to auto-tune, and if tuned manually reception is hissy. I think I will keep it for listening to the Today program, but only just.

2) Change the batteries and it seems to forget all its pre-sets!

3) The unit detects signal strength and switch to stereo when it is high enough. There is no over-ride of this. Stupidly, the levels at which it switches in and out of stereo seem identical (no hysteresis). So, disconcertingly ... Read More:

I have heard better headphones....they exist.
But I have never heard the music sound better when Im driving my tractor wearing my Sennheiser PXC 450's !!!
Altogether very impressive . Comfortable and they do knock back any background noise considerably .
As for a comparison with Bose...when did Bose ever make a hi- fi product ? Er never !

I was originally bought a pair of E3C's as a Christmas present in 2006. The sound quality is undeniably fantastic, and as a commuter the sound deadening is a godsend. The problem is that they don't last long. The first pair of E3C's lasted about 6 months, the second pair the same. By the time the last pair came along the E3C's had been replaced, so I got a pair of SE210's... which also lasted 6 months. Problems have ranged from the speakers stopping, to the cord breaking. Be very careful when you buy a pair.

I bought this headset because mmy previous one broke and I was short on money. I was worried after I had ordered it that for £20 it would be poorly made. It's the opposite. I play a lot of online games and have have some very expensive headsets in the £60 range. I've had over 12 differnt headsets and they've all broken after a while. This one is easily better than a lot of them. Sound and mic quality are very good. It's built well and made from good quality materials. The in-line volume control is big but is the most well-made I have seen (a common item to break on previous headsets). The cups are velvet and very comfortable, it's not a drag to have to switch from speakers and is a joy to use. Base unit to headset cable length is generous.
