Do noy buy this product under any circumstances. I got it on the 25th of June and within the same day it stopped working. The screen just went black and now it refuses to work. The software provided with the "mp3" player discovers an error but fails to fix it. Since I am in the north of the UK their are no service centres nearby according to the philips site. Also the description is misleading as it does not play MP4 but you have to convert to another format that philips has. Don't buy it.

I bought this unit to replace an older one whose performance was erratic. I did buy a cheapie that you see advertised over and over again on ebay but it was rubbish. Fortunately I was able to get my money back. This unit is excellent. It is discrete, stays put in the car, and what is especially good is that it runs off the car and never needs batteries. Sound quality (I listen to audio books) is excellent. Can't vouch for its performance with music, but it represents brilliant value.

Having established myself that the Archos 605 does not support Audible Audio files (.AA format), I asked a simple question of their technical support team. My question was "are there any plans to support the Audible format?" I just got a blunt response which did not answer my question and just said that this is not supported by the unit. At the very least, they could have said "we do not have any plans at this time".

Apart from that, the product is great, and I've already got the DVR unit on order, and very tempted by the TV+ station.

It's such a shame that Archos are firstly being let down by their tech support, and secondly that they don't support the Audible format. I can live with the latter, but not being ... Read More:

I originally purchased this item from Amazon in mid Februarry 2008.
2Gb seemed a fair amount of storage for what I wanted (mostly talking books)and the price was very reasonable
The first one I received from Amazon was faulty - its internal battery (which is charged via a computer USB port) wouldn't hold a charge. I contacted Amazon and they were good enough to send me a replacement even before receiving the original back. This second one has gone the same way.
All in all it's not proven to be a very robust or well designed player.
A pity because I usually like Sandisk drives (I have several of their 4Gb flash drives and they're very good performers and also very reliable. What with trying to update the flashware as soon as I ... Read More:

This is a fun wee machine that looks like a toy but isn't, although there are important compromises to bear in mind.

You get portability and rugged reliability at the expense of

*Memory - only 512mb of RAM and 4gb of solid state storage (no hard drive), of which about half is used by the Linux installation.
* Minority OS - the installed Linux OS will be an utter mystery to most people.
* Speed - the 900mz processor combined with the solid state drive (based on Flash RAM) means that this isn't the fastest machine there is.
* Screen real estate - yes, the screen looks cute, but the native 800x640 resolution does cause problems, even though there is an 800x600 "point and push" option.

It's cheap but it's very nasty.

Biggest gripes are:
-the controls which work to a will of their own. Even turning it on is trial.
-battery life is about 4 hours tops
-switching between tracks. Well you just give up after a while.
-transfer doesn't always work. It will mess up one 'cd' in about 4 to make it unlistenable.

Basically save up and buy an Ipod.

I bought this to replace a different model that was quite good but went wrong. not only did it replace it but it is far better with better band range and superior sound. I drive lots of diferent trucks for a living and this has worked well in all of them.
Well worth the very cheap price just forget the gimmic time and temprature the sound is the next best thing to an MP3 lead

Like most Logitech devices, the Squeezebox Duet is attractive, sleek and very intuitive. It looks good anywhere and the convenience of listening to music out of any entertainment center from files stored on your computer are fantastic. The sound is as clear as you can expect as well.

However, there are some things you need to know about the Squeezebox Duet set-up before you buy. Your computer needs to have wi-fi or a router connected to it. If you use a direct DSL cable (Ethernet cable), you also need an Ethernet cable in the room where your entertainment center is (My computer is in my office and my entertainment center is in my living room). I bought this FM transmitter quite a while ago, back in about '04/'05 and I had one of the old style Toyota Yaris, and it worked fine with my Creative Zen Nano, once you struck the balance between MP3 volume and car radio volume it was great, a bit fiddly to change the stations but still perfectly usable...but then I change my car to a NEW Toyota Yaris...and I plugged it all in, switched it on...but the noise coming out of my speakers?! More hiss than a bag of very angry snakes! I tried it on all the frequencies and it was just so bad, I abandoned it and have yet to find another decent one.
