I have used MiniDisc for digitizing a large vinyl collection. MD offers much better sound quality than MP3, and a computer is not needed, though if need be the data can be accessed and burnt to CD using Sony's new MZ-RH1. However, the MD format seems to be losing ground, in the UK at least, and players and recorders are becoming harder to find. I already have three MD recorders, but one, a Sharp MT-161 I've owned since 1999, is on the blink and I thought it a good idea to grab one of these Sony MZ-E510s while they were still available.
It offers playback only. The unit is the size of a disc case, and a mere 18.3 mm deep. The case is made of brushed metal. Power comes from a Sony Ni-MH "gumstick" battery, which is recharged when ... Read More:

stylish, compact and ultra portable, i think this is a definite buy. you are able to download music from the internet or from cds (via hi-fi and computer), and the size and portability is amazing, but with only 14 hours of battery life, it takes a lot of charging.

This was my first minidisc player I am am very pleased.
The headphones given to you are very good and the general quality of songs (not in LP2 or LP4 mode) is extremely good.
The lack of backlight is annoying but acceptable- you hardly every need it anyway!
It has not microphone socket meaning you can't transfer data from the actual minidisc player to the computer but I knew this before I bought it.
The FM and AM reception is acceptable and the player generally is quite small and fits nicely into most pockets. With the remote simple and acceptable. However it should be pointed out that the radio is inside the remote and can only be operated with the remote. Meaning if you lose this then you lose the radio also. ... Read More:
I'm so glad I found these reviews. I was getting quite paranoid that, despite taking the greatest of care with it, I had somehow managed to break my MZ-N1, annoingly just outside the warranty date. But it seems to be a recurring theme. And I, too, was unable to buy an extended warranty on it - it really does suggest a problem that was known when the product was released.
To me, the whole point of an MD player is to have a piece of digital equipment that doesnt skip. Unfortunately, the laser and seemingly everything else inside my player has packed in. Having been a superb purchase for around 12 months and 3 weeks, my MZ-N1 stopped recognising discs, started telling me there was a 'read error' and stopped recording accurately. It then starting skipping ... Read More:

TOP OF THE RANGE IN EVERY WAY!!!
This beautiful machine has mostly been designed and created for Minidisc users that demand quality and perfection that surpasses MP3/Ipod players in every way.
This unit handles PCM sound, in other words "EXACT SOUND" that you hear in the highest quality available WITHOUT ANY COMPRESSION!!!
That is something that even the latest Ipod cannot offer.
This player can also be used as a hard drive on your pc!!!
also, it is quicker than using your actual hard drive on your pc for saving data.
Another feature is the built in camera (including flash) which gives you the option of taking photos and keeping them on your discs with the ability of viewing on the front of your minidisc player.

Not only is the Sony NW-MS77DR the smallest network walkman ever, it is possibly the most stylish. With 256MB inbuilt and the option to expand by anything up to 1GB with the Memorystick duo you can fit a whole lot of songs to listen to on the move. around 250 when Sony's ATRAC3plus is used, with NO reduction in sound quality! Combined with a battery life that can get you accross the Atlantic from London to New York 6 times without a recharge!! Steve Fosset would only have had to recharge this once (and it only would have taken him 90 mins for a full charge) when completing his round the workd trip! And, at only 54 grams, this is the MP3 player he would have taken to cut down on weight. Ideal for music lovers on the move, anywhere, anytime.

As far as I am concerned there is almost nothing wrong with the next of Sony's little masterpieces, but to avoid any confusion I will just go over the vital good and bad points about Sony's amazind MD MZ-e501.
O.K first of all;
If your going to get a new MD player, always go for a recordable one. Simply becuase buying the prerecorded discs will end up costing you more than buying a recordable one in the first place. Downloading and recording is as cheap as chips!
Secondly:
Make sure that you have a decent pair of headphones or can afford to buy some: the ones that come with the MD player really dont compare to the rest of the machine.
Some really Good points:
.The beatiful, elegent and light MD player ... Read More:
