After years of suffering jumpy, easily scratched CDs, I had to think of either an MP3 or a MD player.. For some reason I couldn't cope with the unreal, untouchable MP3 player and I am now the happy owner of a Sony MZ-N505. It is a versatile player allowing you to shuffle recordings, combine tracks into groups and true to it's interactive Net claim, it specialises in working through your PC to deliver faultless sound quality, important if you are a musician.. The supplied earphones resist every attempt of a manic drummer to dislodge and the USB cable is, for once, long enough to keep in place at your PC without having to slide it out of the workstation every time.. All in all, a professional piece of kit..

I've had my Sony MZ-N510 Blue portable Mini-Disc player/recorder for 5 years and it's still works perfectly since the day I bought it. The sound quality is how you would expect from a well-known brand like Sony, clear and precise. The display is clear and is useful for telling you how much life there is left on the battery that you're using. The sound settings are a nice touch, for adjusting the treble or bass to suit your taste to get the sound that is perfect for you!

There are four different recording modes for songs on the Mini-Discs like Stereo, Mono, LP2 & LP4, however for clear sound quality on all recordings I use stereo when I want to fit more songs on one disc I use LP2 because 1. The sound is stereo and 2.I can double ... Read More:

If you want a hard drive with 1000s of songs, this isn't for you. It can hold 80 minutes of music, or on low quality 320 minutes of music, which is far below that of hard drive players. The MZN 910 is the top of the line portable MD recorder and I've loved using it. The battery life is absolutely supreme (I've easily got a months worth of listening from the rechargable batter at approx 2 hours a day), the remote control a complete joy to use and the design also very chic.

I'm so glad I found these reviews. I was getting quite paranoid that, despite taking the greatest of care with it, I had somehow managed to break my MZ-N1, annoingly just outside the warranty date. But it seems to be a recurring theme. And I, too, was unable to buy an extended warranty on it - it really does suggest a problem that was known when the product was released.

To me, the whole point of an MD player is to have a piece of digital equipment that doesnt skip. Unfortunately, the laser and seemingly everything else inside my player has packed in. Having been a superb purchase for around 12 months and 3 weeks, my MZ-N1 stopped recognising discs, started telling me there was a 'read error' and stopped recording accurately. The Sharp M-MT80 is simple to use.
it's size is compact and the battery life is good
but after a several monthes of constand us to and from work i found that the volume switch and skip switch started to twist around and after a week or so of this the skip back button stoped working

I was unsure about spending as much money as this on a minid disc player, I was put off by the fact I had to record all my CD's onto minidisc and thought about getting the sports CD player instead. I have to say this was one of the best buys I made. The mini disc player looks very nice and the sound is excellent. I would reccomend buying alternatve headphones and the ones supplied have a slighty "tinny" sound and are not that great for running on a treadmill to. With the CD supplied I have a choice of how many tracks I would like to store on a dics. With the long play option I can store 3 compliation CDs onto one minidisc which is excellent.
