I've had this particular player for about a week now and tried to get a decent opinion on it before writing a review.

Battery life is hard to evaluate. 56 hours? maybe. i've been using the rechargable battery which came with the player and i'd give it around 20 hours. The charging bay is a really nice touch. nothing horribly complex but extremely useful and has a very sleek design.

The MZ-N707 feels pretty robust, but haven't and hopefully won't test it to much. it doesn't skip at all, which is one of the great wonders of minidisc. its so much smaller than a discman. it's the ideal portable solution. besides, with sony claiming a minidisc takes up to 320 minutes of music, it is the ultimate portable medium. cheap and plentiful ... I bought this and then wondered whether an MP3 player might have been the better option, but to be honest, it has a few advantages over an MP3 player.

You store on minidisks (obviously), which means that you don't have to delete songs as you won't be running out of space, even if you have a lot of music. Apart from putting music on using the included software you can also record directly from practically anything, it doesn't have to be digital. This means you can back up tapes or LPs and put them on the minidisk as well as rips from CDs or music you bought off the internet. That is probably the main advantage it has over MP3 players in my opinion, because they only read specific types of files.

I've had my Sony MZ-N510 Blue portable Mini-Disc player/recorder for 5 years and it's still works perfectly since the day I bought it. The sound quality is how you would expect from a well-known brand like Sony, clear and precise. The display is clear and is useful for telling you how much life there is left on the battery that you're using. The sound settings are a nice touch, for adjusting the treble or bass to suit your taste to get the sound that is perfect for you!

There are four different recording modes for songs on the Mini-Discs like Stereo, Mono, LP2 & LP4, however for clear sound quality on all recordings I use stereo when I want to fit more songs on one disc I use LP2 because 1. The sound is stereo and 2.I can double the recording ... Read More:

Sharp MDMT190 Silver Minidisc

Alright functions, good sound (headphones are excellent), and as a quick fix, it's very good. However...

I have gone through 3 of these in the past 2 years or so.

First one - lens wore out after 3 months.
Second one - dead on arrival (not from Amazon, you'll be glad to know)
Third one - After 9 months, it works when it feels like it, buttons are coming loose, nightmare!

It is also brick-like compared to newer models, the battery life is nothing special and recording everything manually is a pain.

Having said that it has brought me many months of listening pleasure and if you're strapped for cash or wanting a cheap machine for a walking holiday, this is it.
