this thing is quite amazing....even if thats just by judging the jealousy people even with the new ipods have when i whip this out and watch a music vid in full quality

taking from the review below i did think that paying for these files was a bit of a cheat

but as i am not quite as tight fisted and that the fact i bought this for £200 at currys...i got the new firmware

it went on in a few mins and then all the music vidoes and film that were in AAC and in my itunes folder just dragged it onto the hard drive and within minutes was able to play EVERY single file that i had...i still cant find a format this thing cant play that i use.

but if you arnt prepared to pay the £20 or whatever it cost ... Read More:

The clever little box is great for sharing files on a network. One of the few NAS drives that have built in wifi.

Even if your home router is not wireless you can use the wifi in this device to not only access files but also get online too.

The problems I found with NAS is
1) The 54g speed of wifi makes it pretty slow to access files once 2-3 users start using it.
2) The external USB connected drives cannot be written to - they are read only.
3) You have to format the internal drive to the D-Link proprietory format. This means there is no way to use an existing drive with data as it will be wiped when reformatted. It also means if you take it out of the device you cannot access the data.

Unfortunately had to return the first one as the touch screen was defective, but this was mitigated by the great service and a replacement was sent immediately. First impressions are that it is a great little device, smaller and lighter than a packet of cigaretes. The ability to put extra storage in, by use of a mini-SD card is great, especially if you are to away from home for a long time. Okay 4 Gb memory basic should be enough for most unless you want to use it solely for videos. I haven't used the device for a video yet, but from the sample given it is quite clear.
