Dont buy unless you have a lot of patience and money to waste!! Often hangs on bootup and requires a number of resets for it to boot (its done this from day 1, but steadily getting worse).
Now its stopped detecting any SD card (tried 4) and reports a card error every time. Very disappointing because what it claims to do would be great if it worked properly!!
Sending it back under warranty and see if their customer service is any better!!
Unfortunately had to return the first one as the touch screen was defective, but this was mitigated by the great service and a replacement was sent immediately. First impressions are that it is a great little device, smaller and lighter than a packet of cigaretes. The ability to put extra storage in, by use of a mini-SD card is great, especially if you are to away from home for a long time. Okay 4 Gb memory basic should be enough for most unless you want to use it solely for videos. I haven't used the device for a video yet, but from the sample given it is quite clear. With pictures it does not like too large a format so to display them you need to reduce the size/compression, however the display is nice and clear.Only niggle I have at present ... Read More:

I tried to read as many reviews as possible before buying the archos 705 80gb from Amazon, but could not find many actual owner reviews so I thought I would add mine for anyone considering one of these.
Firstly my concerns: I was worried because I could not find one anywhere to see it in action before buying, only saw the 605 which was great, but I wanted the larger screen for video. I was worried the 260,000 colour screen would not be as good as the 605's 16 million colours and other reviews that said the screen is not as sharp on the 705. After a couple of days playing around with mine I can say the colours are fine (can you amagine 20,000 different shades of red?). I have not tried it side by side with the 605, but photos and video look ... Read More:
This player has it all, I previously owned the archos 605 which is a great little player but the added expense of purchasing the extra codecs is a pain, this player will play 99% of files that you throw at it.
The screen is clear and the control interface is easy to use (don't be fooled by other reviews because it's not an archos or apple system, it's meant to be different) the battery info is reliable and may only be off by 10 or 15mins but this goes both ways depending on what codecs it uses.
plus points -
1)generic usb connection
2)Screen is vibrant and the viewing angles have to be seen
3)easy to use (but so is anything with time)
4)Battery life is best in class (maybe because this is in a class of it's ... Read More:

This little adaptor which is basically what this item comes down to will easily connect to your TV/DVD/Sky via the component cable leads/Scart adaptor to allow for recording/playback.
It is basically a moulded plug that will connect to the underside of your Archos 4 gen. I have a 404 camcorder and it allows me to playback home movies/record last nights sky. It has the input for a charger power supply so that your archos doesn't run out (but not the transformer). I bought the cheap PC adaptor ( called the docking adaptor) as well as this not only gives easy PC interface but also a power supply that you can use on this device (as the USB on the PC will charge you archos when connected to the PC). This will then all you the store the original interface ... Read More:

Interestingly, some branches of Curry's have this at fifteen pounds cheaper. I switched this on and it works straight away. The controls are pretty intuitive and I just drag and drop files into the machine like an extra storage space. Something not mentioned in the guide, is that you can make separate folders inside the main music folder. I know it seems obvious, but the last player I had did not allow this, so you got a lo..o..ong list of tracks. At the Curry's price this is very good value.

Having owned one for a few weeks now, I feel obliged to add my own thoughts on this wonderful bit of hardware. Having pondered for a while over which PMP to buy (the choice being between the A3 or Archos' 605wi-fi) I finally took the plunge and opted for the Cowon. I arrived at my decision based on two things, firstly the reliability of the A3 and secondly the fact that it will play just about any file without wasting my time and effort converting stuff that already plays on my PC.
What I actually got was a lot more! The screen is bright, colours are great and the picture clairty is just breathtaking.
It's simplicity personified when it comes to loading files, just plug in the USB lead and drag and drop to your hearts content, create folders and ... Read More:

Main advantage for me is that the players still plays while charging and docked. When I use the USB cord to a PC it says it's docked and that's that....
Yes I bought the extras with the mains charger so that helps.
It's still easier to use the headphone socket to play through speakers, if you use the AV cable (extras) it blacked out the screen to.
Also works with my 60Gb model (believe it was one of the later slimmer ones).
