My first portable DAB
POSITIVE
-Not a bad size bigger than my MP3 but fits in my pocket
-comes with more extras than some of the more expensive ones do- useful rubber cases
-Not a bad reception (In Herts) my DAB clock radio gets more but it's got a bigger ariel
-easy controls no need to read the 'words'
-clear display/good backlight

NEGATIVE
-on/off button needs to be heald for just the right amount of time and then released to turn off- takes a bit of practice
- It's a bit loud. Even on the lovest setting it seems rather loud. I am blessed with good hearing and it is just a little too much. problem solved however, with headphones that include it's own volume control

Very pleased with the 504.

Plays just about everything out of the box - except MP4 & podcast, for which you need to buy codecs from Archos. They're device id specific, so pirate downloads won't work.

Bought it from Pixmania for about £100 less than the going rate, just over a year ago. Pixmania aren't that great at customer service - paid for express delivery, but with their messing about to verify identity, it took nearly 2 weeks to arrive.

Have had my Archos now for about 1 year, exceptional piece of kit, easy to use and transfer all types of data. It has a great display and movies are very nice to watch with superb display. I have 2 batteries so have approx 9 hours of viewing which I use when flying, cant recommend highly enough

OK, Ive had this device for over a week now, and I've got to know it pretty well.

My original concern before buying was the screen - it wasn't huge - but I have been very impressed with it's clarity. For intance the scores of a football match can still be made out, and it has more pixels-per-ich (dpi) than a standard PC screen.

The camcorder quality is also impressive, especially in daylight, and is easily good enough to be played back on a television. Using the camcorder at night or in heavy artificial light creates a lot more noise, but it's still viewable.

The still camera is quite good, but at only 1.2 million pixels it's not going to capture you amazing photo's, but it's a great add-on with exposure settings ... Read More:

This was exactly the kind of device i was looking for. A multipurpose item of good quality with a big good resolution screen. Its slightly heavy but shows the quality of the build. It was slightly annoying to have to purchase extra plug-ins but that done i was happy. I put DivX movies on it and they played well. I surfed the web very easily using the internal touch keypad, checked hotmail etc. There was very little it did not do apart from actually receive TV. Six months later i tried to turn it on and nothing happened. Thankfully i have everything backed up. I took it back to the shop and they gave me a full refund (docking station too). So what next? Well i am thinking of buying the 705 160GB version and hopefully i will have no problem. I still have faith in ... Read More:

I bought one of these units for my son for Christmas 2007.
The unit was dispatched very quickly from `Allcam World of Portables' although their chosen courier (Citylink) is quite simply appalling. They delivered it to someone half way up the road & never even attempted to deliver it here. After calling City Link many times, we managed to locate & recover the parcel!
The box for the DVD player/TV doesn't give any indication that this unit has Freeview & quotes Model No. PTDVD-768. Having bought this unit as a present, I didn't want to remove the outer cellophane from the box or, break the seal to check. I e-mailed Allcam & they were adamant that the unit did have Freeview.
