I bought this particular box to take on holiday as I could plug my MD Walkman in as well as play CD's. However, the Digital optical link is OUT only (REALLY DAFT), so you have to use an analog stereo-minijack lead to hook up the MD. Sound quality is poor, with low volume and no bass.
CD sound is good though. It plays CDR/RW, but NOT mp3 CD compilations, which is a shame.
If you just need good quality CD/Radio/Cassette playback the unit shouldn't disappoint.

The Goodmans GPS285DAB is basically a good portable system. People have complained about the problem with setting the volume. And it does take some practise to get the measure of it. You just keep pressing the button intermitantly untill you get the desired volume. I found this is only a problem when using the remote.
A word of warning, this system claims to have 20 FM (analogue) presets. It doesn't - the FM tuner is completely analogue, no presets. This is slightly annoying if, like me, you bought the sytem intending to use FM untill the DAB signal is fully installed in the area. However, it does have 10 DAB programmable setting. ALBA CD DAB Radio with cassette

I bought this after having tried and returned two other DAB radio/CD players, one of which would not pick up any DAB stations and the other (a Goodmans) for constantly refusing to play CDs. This was cheaper than the ones I returned and goes to prove that expensive doesn't necessarily mean better. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a compact, reliable radio that can multi-task as a CD player and a cassette player. The sound quality is fine for day to day use eg in a kitchen and I have been able to pick up a good selection of digital stations, despite living in an area surrounded by trees and generally suffering from poor reception on my other non-digital radios.
