Sony SRF-M37L Personal Radio

Be careful ordering this radio on the Amazon site. You will find if you look that there are two Sony SRF M37 Personal radios advertised by Amazon, and they are in fact different!!?? I thought I had ordered the Sony SRF-M37 with 'long wave' radio, as recommended by John Friel, but this was NOT the radio I was supplied with. Instead, as M Van der Velde says in his review I got an AM/FM radio designed for the US market, presumably manufactured for when the US was due to convert to digital signals. This meant it included a 'TV' channel band, and a weather band, both of which actually appear to do nothing in the UK. I'm a bit undecided on this item. The first time I plugged it in the freeview box received no channels at all. However I tried a different place for the aerial and got about 70 channels, all pretty much great quality.

Then it rained and back to needing to fiddle with the aerial millimetre by millimetre to get a channel to work.

It doesn't like mobile phones, walls or metal.

When it works it works great - and I can quite happily watch freeview in perfect digital . But is is temperamental and the actual co-ax cable is far too short which minimises your chances of getting a great position for it.

It is much cheaper than an outdoor aerial and you can take it with you on holiday or even just to another ... Read More:

First of all on opening the box the first thing I noticed was that the "adjustment" screwdriver
was packed in such a way as to leave a permanaent "indent" on the turntable cover ( which is supposed to prevent the stylus slipping on vinyl).When any record was placed on the model I received the
slippage was like ice skates on a rink.As for the sound - very low volume & just like 2 tin cans- the worst I have ever heard, even a £1 radio I own sounds better.The whole package looks very substandard the controls are also very flimsy.DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM you will be disappointed. On the plus side (hence 1 star) the
deliverer was very courteous and has promised a quick collection and a refund.

This radio requires 6, not 4, AA batteries. I power it by mains and feed the output into an amplifier.

On FM there is a high-pitched whine if the amplifier gain is turned up too high. On DAB there is a low-frequency clicking sound. I can remove most of these extraneous noises by turning down the external amplifier's gain and using the radio's own volume control to give what are still adequate volume levels.

Five presets is really too few, especially on DAB.

The quality of the DAB broadcasts is inferior to that of the FM broadcasts, as the high frequencies are noticeably attenuated. However, this probably isn't the radio's fault. DAB is broadcast at too low a bit rate for music; it's significantly lower than I ... Read More:
