I ordered one of these for my daughter's birthday and luckily looked in the box before wrapping it up. It is not compatible with the Ipod Nano 3G, which to be fair it does say in the item description BUT as the blue version shows a photo of the identical clock radio with clearly an adapter with a 3g sitting neatly in it, I assumed that all colours of the same product must have the same adapter included - WRONG! How ridiculous. If only a few colours are being sold with the adapter, it should be made very clear in the item description that an adapter is or is not included. I have now ordered the Ozaki Radio Alarm Clock instead - from Pocket Media Store online as they are selling it cheaper (£29.99) and with free p&p, unlike Amazon. Normally ... Read More:

I have owned my original Roberts radio for years - its sound quality is excellent, and it is constructed of Wood, metal, leather and (knobs and perspex screen) of plastic. It looks and feels like quality. You could probably drop it out of a 4th floor window and it would be as good as new apart from a few scratches (although I can't guarantee this - just suppostion).
So - when I decided to upgrade to DAB - Roberts was my choice and I ordered one through an Amazon trader (never have seen it "in the flesh" just a picture).
I just cannot understand the other reviewers who write about this radio's "solid quality build" - well, maybe it is - compared with most of the other stuff currently on the market, but compared with what Roberts used ... Read More:

I already knew this before purchasing, but it seems that another reviewer did not. When it says it will reach 7-10KM, this means on flat terrain with NOTHING in the way. I used these when travelling to and in France in a car convey of 3 cars.
It was extremely helpful and buying a second set and having them on the same channel works aswell, brilliant.
Having said this, I dropped one on the floor, perhaps from a height of 3 feet (max.) and it started crackling, but only when nobody was talking through it or to it. Strange, but slightly annoying. Fortunately, we had 4 when we only needed to use 3, so it worked out fine.
Seemed to have a long battery life, 5 or 6 hours and it was still working fine.

Looked for a replacement "Dream Machine", preferably with a smaller footprint. The ICFC773 seemed to fit the bill. It is most impressive with its simple controls easy-read dial, presets and wide range of settings and functions. But then I turned the radio on...
The small footprint means a very small speaker and a resultant tinny sound. As an alarm clock it works brilliantly and the tone encourages getting up quickly, just to switch it off!
I've had a Freeplay Ranger for several years. My initial reactions to it were "it's quite heavy for a portable" and "it's a bit difficult to wind up". However, I've really come to appreciate its rugged construction and the freedom that comes from not having to use batteries.
Yes, the tuning and volume knobs are recessed, but I find that I _can_ adjust them one-handed. Winding the radio can be a bit of a challenge sometimes (hence the four star rating), but there is a knack to it that can be mastered. If you want a wind-up radio and you don't have reasonably strong wrists this one probably isn't for you ... except that it also has facilities for charging the batteries both from the mains and from the built-in solar cell.
