Bought to complement my WS-210S Olympus digital recorder. Seems that mixing different makes of mics and recorders can produce disappointing results!
This Olympus microphone and the Olympus WS-210S are a perfect match and work very well together.
The Olympus USA site has a better product description than any site I have seen.
It also comes with an extension lead and a tie clip so that the mic can be placed within 1m of the recorder.
This microphone requires plug-in-power, i.e. power supplied by the recorder.

I'm presently conducting interviews as part of post graduate research and needed a dictaphone, so I got this. I must say that I'm very impressed. Unlike the previous reviewer, I can rewind. The track must be playing though - eg you can't stop playback, then rewind.
The sound quality is excellent through headphones, pretty good through the internal speaker. Batteries (which ARE included, unlike the Amazon description) last for ages, and the unit can record 30 hours of high quality audio. Recordings are also time stamped which is handy.
There is no USB connection for transporting files to mp3 on computer. However, I use Audacity (a free audio editor - google it) and plug the headphone socket into the mic socket on the ... Read More:

The quality of the audio recordings that this little device produces is astounding for something so small. Its memory capacity and battery life are huge. It is sturdy, small, lightweight, well-designed and very easy to use. I have used it for recording everything from interviews to symphony concerts and it has coped superbly every time. The recording quality is far superior to anything I have heard from a tape recorder and the files produced can (if they are not too long) be e-mailed easily to anyone who needs them. I would happily give it 5 stars on every scale I can think of.

Excellent little machine, though mine came in a white case. Still looks good though.
It's amazingly small and ridiculously easy to use. Plug into your PC/Mac and it appears as an external drive.
Mac users: this recorder uses WMA files. The Apple site states that iTunes will play them, but it doesn't. The fix is simple: go to Microsoft.com; type in Quicktime and download flip4mac; then go to a WMA file's Get Info on and change the file association. That's it!

It's cheap and 10 times cheaper than a decent MP3 recorder (like a zoom multitrack) so it's worth getting for recording music lessons and quick demos of ideas and most people still have a tape player so you can play your ideas back to them. But it's a quite hissy and tinny. Even listening through headphones there's not much base response. It's very plasticky and doesn't feel like it'll put up with loads of knocks. However, for around £25 inc postage, you'll not be too bothered if it gets lost or damaged, not like if you've just forked out £200 on an MP3 recorder!
I'll have to see if it lasts now as it'll be living in my guitar bag from now on and I may try it with another mic

I'd been wanting a digital voice recorder to record my lectures, but my options were somewhat limited due to the fact that I use a Mac, and this one was unanimously recommended to me. It hasn't disappointed- the sound quality is generally very good (although the mic is ridiculously sensitive- it's much more effective on lo than hi), I love the fact that the USB plugs directly into the computer (no fiddling around with cords) and battery life seems fairly reasonable.
The only thing that's slightly annoying is the way that third party software is needed to convert the WMA files into MP3s to be played in iTunes, but such programs are easy and inexpensive to purchase, so it isn't a huge issue. A very effective, easy to use product- I'd highly recommend ... Read More:

I bought the 1gb machine, which matches on all features bar the storage capacity, as the above reviewer it's simple to use and pretty to look at, but the recording leaves much to be desired. If you are recording at close range the Sony does a great job, but with distance the recorded volume falls of hugely and is over shadowed with an annoying background hiss. This makes it too difficult, if not nearly imppossible, to hear through the in-built speaker or supplied headphones. The only way that I could make sense of things was to use a set of headphones with a volume control and the Sony's microphone sensitivty set to maximum. Given the price of these gadgets the Sony's performance is well below acceptable. I do not have experience of hard drive dictation machines, ... Read More:
