There's a saying that goes: "Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door." Well guess what? Nowadays we're a lot more likely to encounter a corked bottle of pinot than a mouse, and as far as I'm concerned, it makes no sense that any other type of corkscrew still exists!

This set comes with a foil cutter (not really needed) and a flashy box (also not really needed), and most importantly a nice and chunky lever-arm corkscrew that takes the cork out of the bottle smoothly every time. It even includes an extra screw should you ever need to change the one that it comes with.

I bought this nearly 6 months ago because I was finding it painful to open bottles due to a combination of RSI and arthritis in my wrist. So I must have used it well over 100 times, with no trouble, even with plastic corks. It's a bit noisy in use and the blue light that tells you it's charging is a bit bright, but the only better wine drinking accessory I've ever seen can be viewed on Youtube if you search for usbwine. I have had one of these since July 2003. It still performs reliably and has no faults. Although now imitated at much lower prices the reviews of competitiors and my own less happy experiences with a cheap copy suggest that for heavy use the original will be the better long-term bet.

Power Octopus Corkscrew Set

My first Lever corkscrew did the job most of the time, but struggled with some corks.
Eventually it disintegrated with various bits flying around!
My second was better but still struggled with bottles with non-standard necks.
This one handles any bottle and is more stable as you can hold the bottle down as you grip the neck. Needs a good pull sometimes but always works, and the foil cutter is more effective than most.

Here's a little history - years ago I used a shelf mounted Rapid corkscrew at my work opening perhaps 200 bottles of wine in a night for functions and it was brilliant but too expensive for home use.
A few years ago some cheap copies became available and I bought one. It certainly wasn't up to the mark - almost working just isn't good enough.
I had a good one titled "the ultimate corkscrew" but it developed faults as did the (foc) replacement and, embarassingly, the one I gave a friend.
I have wanted a Screwpull lever model for some time but was put off by all the flappy bottle grips and stand business. Enter the LM400.

This product works beautifully, I would have given it five stars but removing the pulled cork is slightly fiddly. Best corkscrew that I have used.
