I bought this recording because my son, a student at Durham, was in the cathedral for the first live performance and rated it highly. I was a Deep Purple fan in my youth, too! The first time I listened to the concerto all the way through I was left feeling slightly 'flat', as other reviewers have commented, but I have listened to it quite a few times now and love it more and more. I was going to say that 'From Prebends Bridge' is my favourite movement but I went and checked the CD and decided I'd be hard pushed to chose one track above the others. Listen to them all - more than once - and see what you think!

I have followed Kathryn Tickell since she was a very young and promising girl in the eighties.
I live in Norway and used to listen to Jim Lloyds brilliant "Folk On Two"
on BBC 2 every Wednesday evening.
I have always been impressed by Kathryn Tickells music and this one is NO EXCEPTION!
She has made so many 5 stars albums, but this one deserves a 6 star!
One of the greatest album in the history of folk music!

I bought this after having watched a short documentary on TV about Kathryn which I enjoyed, and having been in Northumberland the previous year for a short vacation, I decided to buy this CD. To be honest, I'm not so keen on the whole, although the standard of mucisianship is good throughout. I expect fans would enjoy it though. Just not my cup of tea!

There's something quintessentially British about this album. I was in Luton airport in about 2001, about to fly off to Strasbourg to work for a few weeks. I was feeling a bit apprehensive (never worked abroad before), I was in the tail end of a long relationship, I felt I was stepping into the unknown. I felt a bit lost, to say the least. Then this album came over the PA system (yes! at Luton airport, believe it or not.) I went straight to the record shop (there in the terminal!) and bought it. It kept me sane during the next few weeks and has been a loved possession ever since. Thank you, Kathryn! I treasure this album and would recommend it to anyone. It's HOME.

Yes, I'm a big fan, but this album of bit 'n' pieces really is something special. Not only does Kathryn play magnificently, but an assortment of friends, students and fellow musicians from various corners of Europe as well as England, are also on top of their game, bending and stretching the folk music genre with great skill and joy.

Another classic from Kathryn Tickell, who gets better and better. Music to live with, revealing new nuances and depths with every listening. Tickell is quite simply the best and most challenging trad musician in the British Isles - and everything she does is worth listening to.
