I have to agree with all the other huge Kings fans who've been let down by this album. I thought 'Because of the Times' was a departure from their original raw sound but the tracks are all fantastic in their own right, so it succeeded as a progressive work. But they've set 5 star standards for themselves with their previous records and this album, however, just takes things too far into the mainstream. The tracks are all very samey, only 'Crawl' stands out for me. I don't even think 'Sex on fire' is a patch on their old stuff, how ironic it got to number 1. Add to this their increasingly polished image and I'm getting worried that the Kings are turning into a run of the mill, easy listening, stadium band. Are money and fame making them soft? ... Let me start by saying that this had the potential to be the second best Oasis album ever. Behind 'Definitely Maybe', of course. But because of a lack of consistency, it slots into third place, behind 'Morning Glory' as well, which disappoints me somewhat.

Nevertheless, this is how Oasis should sound, in my opinion. This is undiluted rock and roll as well as a new twist in the Pink Floyd-esque psychedelia which is brilliant. The opener, 'Bag It Up' is outstanding, a true belter of a track if there ever was one, and 'The Turning' has that hint of endless maturity in its piano riff but explodes into an all-out rocker with the chorus and it's 'shake a ragdoll, baby', proving that Liam is on fine form vocally to blow away the cobwebs before closing in a Pink ... This is an outstanding album from a true bluesman. Major record company involvement has not dented his ability to produce searing blues with a wonderful sincerity and his usual humility. Delta style blues at its best.

Let It Go
This is a brilliant CD, Will has excelled himself again and there isn't one track that I don't like. I bought it on the strength of Changes, but all the tracks are great. I just keep playing it over and over in the car as loud as my son can put up with.

My daughter bought me this for my birthday, cant stop playing it full volumn in the car. Cry everytime it gets to "slipping thru my fingers" I can really relate to this song. A must for every Abba fan and even some who aren't. All the cast did a fantastic job with all the songs, some better than others.

This stuff is interesting but its not up to the standard of the original 3 volumes. 1-3 had numerous brand new tracks; but here we get just 3 or 4 decent new songs sandwiched between some unsatisfactory preliminary versions, random live tracks numerous work-in-progress recordings.

It really feels more like a friend has made you a Dylan mix tape than an official release, though the marketing boys have made a lovely box for it. I would say that there is actually just one discs's worth of exciting new material spread over the 3 available discs.

It would have much better to release a fairly recent live set such as the famous supper club performances...they clearly have the tapes as one song sneaks on here. Anyone familiar with the genuine bootleg Bob material that is available ... Read More:

When I first heard 'Mercy' I didn't like it because I thought the background riff sounded too much like the one from 'Stand By Me' and, for me, it didn't quite work. Also, it is too easy to compare the latest female singing sensation to Dusty Springfield or Amy W which isn't fair on anyone concerned. Then I heard 'Warwick Avenue' and my interest was piqued (I had just split up with someone who lived in that part of London). Still I was waiting for something more.

Then I head 'Stepping Stone' and I knew I was going to buy this album, and I have not regretted it one bit. In fact, I think I like some of the album tracks better: 'Serious' is what the Supremes might have sounded like had they gone disco, smooth and funky with all the right squeals; 'Hanging On Too Long' which builds slowly with a soft ... This is a difficult one to review - as a fan of the band for many, many years I was initially disappointed on first listen. I still don't think This Was Just Your Life is actually that strong a starter (in my opinion Frantic was better - agreed, though, that St. Anger as an album was poorer). Yet, on the whole, and after hours of repeat listening, it is a very well crafted album with many merits.

The melodies are hidden well and only really appear after about the third time round in the CD player. The rhythms, as usual, are worn on the sleeve and very groovy, a la their hard-rock era after and including The Black Album. There's a lot of talk about it being a very thrash orientated album but I don't see that. It is fast in places and does have remnants of the old, heavier Metallica but those days ... Read More:
