I recently bought this for my six-year old son, who greatly enjoys playing 'Bop It', another toy which runs along a similar vein. If you're old enough to remember SIMON, an electronic toy from the early 80s, then you'll be pretty familiar with the types of games that this little toy offers. There are six choices of game, which range from an incremental memory challenge (good), a time-based reaction test (also good), a code-breaking game (not so good - the challenge is to find the correct sequence of the six colours in as few attempts as possible), and a multi-player option for up to six players which involves passing the cube when prompted (not so good - it's a bit too simplistic).

Firstly, the sloping runways as the first obstacle is NOT a design flaw - you are supposed to time it so that the ball is still rolling forwards as the slopes change direction (another reviewer has commented that the first runways cause the ball to always move in the wrong direction). The idea is not to just let you press buttons and watch as the ball moves - the point is to cause the user to think how to reach the end using basic physics, adding to its educational value.
The game loses a lot of replay value, unless you are determined to beat your fastest score. This is possible, and suprisingly hard - its very easy to make one slip up and have to start over (unless you cheat and put the ball back onto where it fell off!)

Blokus Duo is a 2-person version of the excellent game Blokus. Blokus can only be played with 4 people, which can be a disadvantage if there aren't enough interested players around. Luckily, Blokus Duo works equally well as a game, also managing to elicit all the same competitiveness, conniving strategy, quest for domination, desire to thwart ones opponent and addicition to having to always play just one more game to try to level the scores!
The problem with Blokus Duo is the presentation and packaging. It's marketed as the travel version. Well, ours has never travelled further than from the living room to the kitchen table and after just three months, the box is weakening, the flimsy plastic storage trays have almost given out ...
