Harry Potter 20Q

My eight year old son, a huge Harry Potter fan, approached the Harry Potter 20Q with a mixture of intrigue and anticipation. Several goes later, with the "A.I. Wizard" 20Q having singularly failed to make even *one* accurate guess, my son asked if I could maybe take it back to the shop and change it for a book...

Awful.

LEGO Star Wars 6211: Imperial Star Destroyer

My son enjoyed patiently building this model over 4 days at Christmas but found that every time he wanted to play with the model it fell apart as its base is not strong enough to support the model and the engines stick out below the base so they fall off every time it is put down. Finally after months of frustration we contacted Lego who supplied some extra bricks to try and stabilise the base (a known problem obviously) but that didn't work so we returned it. A great model for adults but simply not suitable for playing with - don't waste the money for kids.

Cars Movie Moments - Sally & Cruisin McQueen

I brought this set for my son. He loves the Cars movie and he loves Lightning McQueen and Porsche. The build quality is very good and they look the business. He has other cars, but he loves these the most as he re-enacts the story from the movie. These toys go through a bit of carnage, but they have held up well. I would reccommend these to all cars fan, my children love the colours and the design and it adds an extra dimension and depth once they've seen the movie a 100 times.

LEGO City 7890 Ambulance

This is a really nice, solid Lego set. The ambulance is six blocks wide, unlike the old four block sets, and unlike the monstrosities the company unleashed in the late 90s has a good, satisfying build involved. There's a couple of tiny pieces that will disappear quite quickly and the set relies on stickers for some pieces - including the blinds for the windows, which annoyingly has to go across two bricks - so it loses a star on that.

Its size and weight means that it can zoom across the floor with a good push, and roof panels are easily removed so that small hands can reach inside.

Tomy Aqua Draw Mini Mats - Teletubbies

If you have never seen aqua-draw, the premise is quite simple. You fill the pens with water, and then as the kiddies draw on the pages, the colours start to appear. Its almost an inverse-painting! As the drawings dry, the colours fade, and back to the beginning.

Great alternative to paint... mess free really. Good if you are out and about. Highly recommend this, and the other aqua draw variants.
