I have a friend with one of those modern laser sets that occasionally beeps when you score a hit, and people sort of walk around the room with those, slightly bored and not really caring if they get hit or not.

This is all rather different. The shocks aren't particularly strong, but they're enough to give you a good reason to shoot the other guy before he zaps you. Summer Fun - Reloadable Water Pistol

Like another reviewer, I bought this under the impression that it was black. When it arrived it was actually in a lurid shade of yellow.

It's not bad as a water pistol but the magazines are very fragile - my kid cracked one of them in the first hour of play. You can find much better water pistols than this.
