Ticket To Ride Europe

This is a real hit with our family whose age range is 5 - 75. Once rules explained no reading apart from matching place names on board to those on your ticket, max hour to play and unlike monopoly you don't know who has won until the final count up so younger players don't get disheartened half way through. Some play it strategically but our five year old won the first couple of times he played which was refreshing but there is enough of a challenge for older players to want to keep playing to improve their tactics. It is addictive.

It allows you to use your imagination and you put it to paper.

The London Underground Board Game Deluxe Tin

This is a good game - generally about 45 minutes. You have a strategy for getting round the London Underground System so you can tick off your destinations - but Hazard Cards and the dice can throw you way off. Sort of like life really. Never gets bad tempered like Monopoly, and short enough to have a good pace. Easy enough for kids once they know where their tube station destinations are. Great for foreign friends as a souvenir. Competitive enough without being cut throat.

Destined to be a classic? For many it already is. I've been playing this for nearly twenty years now and it never disappoints. It's certainly not a quick game but accompanied with wine and a decent 'lunch' it will easily keep 6 adults entertained for the best part of an evening.

Newcomers to the game probably find it a little slow at first; the rules can appear complex (although they're soon grasped) but it takes a while to build up a sense of the strategy required to win big, not least because regular players know to hang back with their 'nasty' cards until the later stages when the stakes are considerably higher.

Blokus Duo

Blokus Duo is a 2-person version of the excellent game Blokus. Blokus can only be played with 4 people, which can be a disadvantage if there aren't enough interested players around. Luckily, Blokus Duo works equally well as a game, also managing to elicit all the same competitiveness, conniving strategy, quest for domination, desire to thwart ones opponent and addicition to having to always play just one more game to try to level the scores!

The problem with Blokus Duo is the presentation and packaging. It's marketed as the travel version. Trivial Pursuit Genus

I rang hasbro when they redesigned the trivial pursuit board to complain about what they'd done and was told that customers liked the new version and that there would be no going back.

I can see that no no one else likes it either but putting the reviews on amazon obviously aren't sufficient.
