This is quite a demanding game to play; it really requires 6 or 7 contestants all of whom have the urge to win, and a great deal of time, if you're really going to appreciate its complexity. I've never played it through at one session, rather let games run over a period of time with the same group of friends. I'd imagine that you'd need to give it at least a full day if you wanted to see it off at one go, especially if you had a full complement of players.

LeapFrog Clickstart Dora the Explorer

My daughter really struggled with Clickstart at first. We bought it for her third birthday and she couldn't cope with the mouse but she loves Dora and after using it for about 10 minutes over two occasions she is now finding it easy. Her understanding of letters etc has improved already.

Not a marble expert - but having looked around the usual for some marbles other than a string bag party bag set this seemed to be a good option. There are more marbles than you could probably ever need, all shapes and colours for various proper games or just jewel collecting/sorting. I also got the 100 marbles set but found this one better to look at (other had just plain glass with a swirl colour, this one includes solid colours and textured ones) and more versatile with the sizes. Comes in useful storage tin. Most marble game sets are twice as much and I haven't seen a large set any cheaper than this in my searches. Good buy for traditional/imaginative games.

Stratego is an entertaining game for two players, with 'incomplete information' where the pieces of the opponent are hidden. The initial deployment is not fixed, so there is scope for tactics and customisation right from the start. It is easy to learn and has quite a depth to it. The game has been around for nearly 100 years, though under other names, so it really has stood the test of time.

This new edition gets a rock solid 5 stars from me (4 for just being Stratego), but there are good and bad points:

The good: Great piece and board art, not gaudy like the previous edition. New tidy 'shield' piece design which slot nicely into a plastic tray to keep them secure. The Spy is now a seductive female which I think is a very ... Read More:

Khufu The Mummy DVD Game - Atmosfear

Having been disappointed with a previous DVD Game (Disney Trivia) we were a little nervous about buying this one. We had no need to worry. The kids all love it and so do we. The fact that the game only lasts 45 minutes each time makes you more inclined to play it as it doesn't go on forever. Admittedly the kids all want to play it again and again though! Our girls are 12 and 15 and our eldest son is 19 and we all had great fun with this over Xmas. The rules seem a little confusing to start off with but the DVD gives clear instructions on how to play. The Mummy is far from frightening, amusing us all with his witty comments and jokes. We definitely recommend this game.
