I recently bought this for my six-year old son, who greatly enjoys playing 'Bop It'Bop It Extreme 2, another toy which runs along a similar vein. If you're old enough to remember SIMON, an electronic toy from the early 80s, then you'll be pretty familiar with the types of games that this little toy offers. There are six choices of game, which range from an incremental memory challenge (good), a time-based reaction test (also good), a code-breaking game (not so good - the challenge is to find the correct sequence of the six colours in as few attempts as possible), and a multi-player option for up to six players which involves passing the cube when prompted (not so good - it's a bit too simplistic).
There's no similarity to the Rubik's ... Read More:
My Son had no confidence with his reading, but when he started playing Pokemon with this starter set he realised that he could read and take in information! Find youngsters something interesting and colourful to read, like Pokemon cards, and they'll take more of an interest in books and learning.

Firstly, the sloping runways as the first obstacle is NOT a design flaw - you are supposed to time it so that the ball is still rolling forwards as the slopes change direction (another reviewer has commented that the first runways cause the ball to always move in the wrong direction). The idea is not to just let you press buttons and watch as the ball moves - the point is to cause the user to think how to reach the end using basic physics, adding to its educational value.
The game loses a lot of replay value, unless you are determined to beat your fastest score. This is possible, and suprisingly hard - its very easy to make one slip up and have to start over (unless you cheat and put the ball back onto where it fell off!)
Having had this as a child, I remembered just how over sensitive our trap was. After setting this up - which took quite a while, I was quite impressed at the new traps... the loop and the flushing toilet especially and couldn't wait to play it.
Boy was I disappointed! The ball hasn't enough momentum to EVER go all the way round the loop, and our cage NEVER goes down - even when we hit it, it gets stuck half way. It looks great till u play it.... needs a lot of tweaking by the makers!

I remember when the first version of this game came out in this form when I was a lad and my mum being quite dismayed that a game she used to play with pencil and paper was now presented by little plastic boats and hit and miss pegs!
Nearly 30 years on from that event, my children and I are still getting plenty of enjoyment out of this game and I would heartily recommend this as a great addition to the games cupboard for the whole family.
Where this strategy game works very well is that even if a adult is playing against a much younger child because there is always an element of luck in the hitting of your opponent's ships and a random placement of your ships can work just as well as a much thought out one, the chances of the child ... This is a real hit with our family whose age range is 5 - 75. Once rules explained no reading apart from matching place names on board to those on your ticket, max hour to play and unlike monopoly you don't know who has won until the final count up so younger players don't get disheartened half way through. Some play it strategically but our five year old won the first couple of times he played which was refreshing but there is enough of a challenge for older players to want to keep playing to improve their tactics. It is addictive.
Doesn't look like much in the box; cd, counters and four playing cards. However, this is a really fun and educational game. My little girl was given this when she was two and has played and played it. The cd can be started at a different point to make a different game each time. She is three now and it is still a firm favourite, her older cousins and friends love it too...simple but brilliant. Her listening skills have come on in leaps and bounds. It is definately worth the money.
