I first came across this puzzle at a friend's house and couldn't put it down. Ostensibly, I bought it for my 5 year old son as it is pirate themed, but I believe it is good for my spatial awareness and problem solving too. There are 16 characters on the board, divided into quarters, and you have to utilise the shaped covers to leave only certain ones showing (eg 5 white ships). I followed the puzzles through from beginning to end, they are graded from Starter and Junior to Expert and Master, and thought the progression of complexity was subtle and appropriate. There are almost 50 questions in all, in a handy spiral bound book which slots into the tray in the base of the game, along with the 4 cover pieces. It's nifty, durable, thought provoking ... i bought my daughter this last christmas and she loved taking the lid off and putting the shapes in when she was too young to put the shapes in the sorters, there is a sensor near the lid that meens whenever you put a shape in the top of the cookie jar or when you are taking one out it sings a song to you.
now she is 16 months old and she can find the sorters around the side for the shapes and when she gets it right she giggles. now she finds pegs and socks and things that she can fit in her cookie jar! it keeps her occupied for ages!
