Wooden Thomas & Friends: James the Red Engine

My 3 year old (a great Thomas Fan) was given a Flair James as a present. He gives all his wooden engines a hard life! But, I must say the Flair toy has faired much much worst than all his older Brio engines (I understand that Brio no longer make Thomas toys), the paint finish has really flaked and worn away, the toy also appears to be much more flimsily held together -not screwed like the Brio engines and will need to be kept an eye on. Also from a purely 'Dad' perspective, the printing quality of the graphics on the toy are really poor. All in all, it should not be selling for the same price as the Brio version it replaced. Be warned!

Take Along Thomas - Bridge Accessory Pack

Please note, this comes with a new style track that is not compatible with the older (2005) Take along Thomas sets like the engine shed. These newer style track packs come with adapters to allow them to be joined but only 2 per pack. This means both bridges have to be linked and you cannot use the trestles unless you have extra track in the new style.

BRIO 33183 Flying Scotsman Railway Set

Tomy Thomas & Friends - Sodor Adventure Land Deluxe

We bought this for our 2.5 year old daughter because she is mad about Thomas. We found it great on many levels: it comes with Thomas, Percy, James, Spencer and Diesel; the idea of sending the engines whizzing down the winding mountain was great fun for all the family; it is compact, so doesn't take over the sitting room floor and fits easily in the car for transportation to Granny & Grandad's house, making visits a lot less boring! She loves it and it keeps her occupied for hours, both as a playset and by finding new and exciting adventures for the engines away from the mountain. Although most Brio is not recommended for children younger than 3 years old, this set is designated as being OK from 18 months old up. We bought it for our son's second birthday, and he absolutely adores it. The pieces all seem very robust, and there is relatively limited scope for him to do much damage with the pieces if he throws a tantrum. For instance the house is made of a soft material. Learning how to run the train on and off the tracks, keep it on the track, run it through the house and use the right magnet on each carriage to connect to the others has proved to be an absorbing exercise in physical and mental dexterity. I agree with the previous reviewer. These trains are not as well made or as durable as the ones which were made by Brio. I too am on the lookout for the few Thomas characters made by Brio we don't have.
