The Sega Mega Drive is the jewel on the Gaming Crown in my household, my mother bought one when she was pregnant with me and it's been part of our family since then. Even though I've moved onto bigger and better consoles such as the PS2, Gamecube and so on, the Sega Mega Drive still holds its own and is the home of some of the best games ever.
When I heard of this release, and pre-ordered it, I had high expectations. Sadly, most of them were crushed.
A good 70% of the games available on this release are the same genres, most of them are platforms. Sonic is easily the best available on this disc, but others such as Altered Beast and Alex the Kidd have small likeability factor and short lifespans. The only thing that ... Read More:

I only really bought this for the 'Ghouls n Ghosts' games that I used to play on the SNES back in the 1980s.
I'd forgotten how hard ALL of the games in this compilation actually were. Enjoyable, but so difficult. I'll never get to know if the games are impossible to complete, and here's why:
You can plough on for hours and hours and hours, finally managing to fight your way through a couple of levels only to discover there is no way to save your progress. Other than leaving the game in your Playstation and keeping it switched on so the game remains at the point you left it, you have to start from scratch all over again. Keeping the console switched on is a total pain, but the only solution when the games are so hard to get through. ... Read More:

Much better than Sonic Riders, so if you enjoyed that, you'll love this! Less hectic, more unlockables, more characters, better courses, great to be able to change your gear in the middle of a race without having to pause the game.
If you buy this, you won't be disappointed.
If you don't buy this, I will be disappointed with you!

If you're a fan of simple yet highly addictive "Just One More Go!?" games then this is the Space Invaders game for you.
This game needs little introduction for most but for those who've never played this game before;- this was one of the first games that sparked the videogame revolution! You are at the controls of a heroic space craft which can move left and right, dodging the fire of invading aliens whilst exacting justice to bring them down through your own cannon.
This game replicates ALL the versions of Space Invaders from the monochrome black-and-white of the cocktail table versions to the stand up colour graphics versions. The gamer is presented with their own 3-D arcade featuring all these units which can be walked up to, selected ... Read More:

I am very pleased to hear the American version of super street fighter 2 turbo is difficult. No doubt the PAL version will be the same. You might be thinking this is in effect the same version as hyper street fighter 2 but there is one crucial difference. It is far easier to get Akuma at the end instead of Bison. Also in Super turbo if you get Akuma at the end you can use continues on him which is not possible in Hyper.Instead if you lose to Akuma there you have to continue on Bison.
It is a shame they did not include ordinary super street fighter 2,i.e the street fighter 2 set is not quite complete.I hope they bring this edition out before long again with the arcade difficulty and no loading times.I can't wait for street fighter 3 again it would be nice have all ... Read More:

Having bought other retro games packages and forgetting about them almost instantly, I was surprised to find myself utterly glued to this. It's even made me give up Pro Evo 6 for the time being! The graphics and sound, as expected, are simple but the playability of some of the games is top notch. Bubble Bobble is just as good as it ever was, especially in co-operative mode with a friend. Space Invaders had me clenching my teeth in concentration (it's quite tough really!) and Colony 7 is simple but addictive (and the sound effects are so very Squarepusher-esque). Other games are dated and a little silly but I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. A great price too.

All I can say is Sega should be ashamed, not so much the games or the collection, it is slightly entertaining hence the one star, and can be picked up for less than a tenner which is ok. But dont bother these games were classics the way they were and didnt need these polished semi 3D poor remakes, Sega should have just put the original versions on this comp along with a few more eg streets of rage, vectorman, strider to name a few, but they'll probably save those for classics and rehash them with "3D graphics"....Leave the classics the way they're supposed to be, Classic! Buy Capcom Classics instead!
