Ok there's the new features like the club-tuning, coaching & simultaneous on-line play and these are all good but other than that the game is basically the same as ever. No noticable improvement in graphics for me, game play exactly the same including the clumsy system of gauging distance ("so should I set this putt to 10 feet & add 50% overspin(?) or 20 feet & hit it 60% power or...."), the funny little chip shot option that feels like it's been imported from an entirely different golf game, the miraculous ability to control the flight of the golf ball AFTER you've hit it. Also (I could be wrong here, maybe it's just my perception) the thing that made TW08 an improvement over previous versions is that they'd made it more of a challenge ... Read More:

I must admit that although I am a huge fan of the Madden NFL series, over the past few years I haven't really noticed any differences, other than graphics and rosters, when I have purchased the new game each year, leaving me feel a little ripped-off for trading in last year's edition for less than a tenner to fork out £40 or more for the new one, but with Madden 09 it is completely worth it.

There are now so many more updates than previous years (as well as updated graphics and rosters) including the" My Skill" difficulty setting which assesses you while you play to give you a personalised difficulty, so when playing either on single player or online, it gives you opponents at a similar skill level as yourself. My title sums this up mostly. The game itself, which is the main thing to go on, is very good indeed. Some people have complained it is too difficult or that some swing mechanics are not quite right, but this is a simple practice issue and after you sit down for a few rounds and work out what not to do and what you need to change to get differing effects then you should be better equipped for the challenge. This is a good thing, too many people want to pick this up with a one button swing to be able to hit 350yd drives straight down the middle of the fairway, but I prefer the fact that at first you suck (oh and I did) but with practice you get better and this is itself is a nice feature, that all your hard work pays off and you find yourself actually getting immense ... The control system for this game makes absolutely no sense. Half the time it doesn't perform the 'flickit' tricks anyway. After a couple of the most infuriating hours of my life trying to get to grips with this control system I have given up.

I'm sure some of the other features are great but i'm not going to get to use these because the control system is unfathomable and infuriating. I won't even trade this in as some poor other person who has heard the ridiculous hype might waste money on it!

I would recommend spending the time you would have to invest actually learning to skateboard!

A good game but it really is like fifa 06 with better graphics. No create a team, and most irritatingly, every save is called career 1, 2 etc. which makes it very difficult to find one if you have lots of saves. No practice either. The arena is a good idea but training allows you to have practice matches whereas arena is a player against a keeper. there are plusses. graphics 9/10. realism 9/10. having real boots like addidas, puma, umbro etc rather than just ea 1 2 3etc. a good game but lacks some crucial elements. 3 and a 1/2 stars.

Do whatever it takes to meet an owner's expectations by properly managing rosters and using your creativity to fit player salaries under the new cap." and "29 AHL teams - the top developmental league for the NHL - are exclusively featured and fully playable. Develop your talent with their minor affiliate until you are ready to call them up for the show. Be the GM and manage your team from the ground up while staying under the salary cap." What they are trying to do is make something boring sound exciting, and you get NO reward for clearing this joke of a mode. Are you paying attention EA? Even thought the demo only allowed you to play 2 teams, for 2 minute quarters and only half a game it was still enough to convince me to buy the game.

This has a very similar feel to Fifa 08, which I also find a great game.

With regards to the 1 star reviewer, all I can think is that they haven't spent enough time learning how to play the game. The game shows you "hot spot" areas where you're particular player is strong on shooting (e.g. Don't use your centre for three pointers!!! Surely that's too obvious?)

I've only played the demo a handful of times, but am scoring sweet three pointers, alley-oops and slick dunks without any problems at all.

Well... I bought madden as soon as it came out, its fantastic in superstar mode, which is why i bought it origanally, however after winning superbowls with my SupStar i thought id turn my hand to franchise, again did great and managed to turn the 49ers from rubbish 4-13 to superbowl winners in 3 seasons, unfortunatley in season 6 preseason the game locks up when training your players, Iv spoken to EA on a number of occasions and they tell me the same thing regarding a new patch (it doesnt work)and im not the only one with the issue just read the EA madden discussion pages. i would wait until 09 to get a madden title and only after seeing if the issues had been resolved. anyway great game if you only wanna be a superstar.
