Squaresoft do make the best rpgs and even though this is a strategy type it is absoloutley amazing i just couldn't stop playing it. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys turn based strategy rpgs i.e shining force

Saga Frontier 2

SaGa Frontier 2 is and RPG that i feel has never garnered the recognition that it deserves. I read a lot of articles about it which rated it as 'average', a mere bank balance-builder for Square in view of the Final Fantasy X project.
Those articles were wrong.
As with previous (so far unreleased) offerings from the SaGa franchise, SaGa Frontier 2 allows the player to follow the adventures of more than one character throughout the game. This gives it a greater replayability value than other more linear RPG's but also allows the player to tackle the game and discover different facets of the storyline, some being unique to one scenario.

Tobal No. 1 (PS)

Tobal No 1 is a fighting game by Squaresoft that came out in 1996.

It has great cult status now and its easy to understand why. Tobal doesn't play like any other fighter around, it is very much an individual around the Tekkens and the Mortal Kombats!!

There are three attack buttons (low, mid, high) a guard button and a jump button. To do attacks we have a context sensitive system and this is what makes this game so interesting. You can link different moves together because one move may position you in a certain way, this can create really interesting strings of moves which can be pretty rewarding to beat out.

Bushido Blade

This is easily the most intense and in-depth sword-fighting game ever produced.

The main selling point for me was the fact that the characters respond realistically to being smashed over the head weith a huge sword - i.e. they bleed a lot, then die. Another excellent factor is the ability to run anywhere in the playing field. Whilst many other 'beat 'em ups' advertise their 3D playing fields, you can rarely run away from your opponent, let alone climb above them, then thrust a katana through their brain when they try to follow you, or jump down on them with a deadly swipe.

Secret Of Evermore (SNES)

I really cannot believe that I am the first person to review this game! It's a masterpiece of evolutionary RPG and educational to boot! The game starts off in the jurassic period, going through to the Pharoah, medieval and then space age. It's fantastic! You have to beat quite a few bosses and they can be quite hard especially if you don't have enough minerals to make the weapons. Your side-kick the everfaithful dog changes as you evolve throughout time. In the Jurassic period he starts of all scraggily and hairy and then he changes in the Pharoahic period into a type of sphinx-come-egyptian hieraglyphic dog and in the space age he strongly resembles K9 from the original Dr Who series.
