Gran Turismo 4 (PS2)

I've always been a huge fan of the GT series. I remember being so excited about playing the first Gran Turismo on the PS1 when it first came out. The graphics were ground-breaking at the time and the selection of cars was amazing, even if the first game was limited to nearly all Japanese cars.

GT4 still does contain more Japanese cars than American and European cars (it is a Japanese game, after all) but the choice of non-Japanese cars has been greatly improved and GT4 boasts even more racing circuits than it's predecessors. There are about 700 different cars to choose from all told, covering most car manufacturers. The cars vary from racing cars, rally cars, road cars and even concept cars.

I played Guitar Hero 2 at a friend's house for the first time last weekend and I loved it so much that I bought GH3 with the two controllers. I read some of the reviews where people had said it's too difficult and wasn't sure what to expect. Well, it isn't that hard at all. It is a tiny bit less forgiving than GH2, but I can still hit 99% of notes on easy (that 100% is still eluding me!) and I've only played it a few times.

The graphics are, well, the same as before, which is basic. But this game isn't about visual appeal, it is about playability and it has that by the shedload.

I'm not an all-out rock and metal fan (Foo Fighters is my kind of thing) so, for me, the songs make up an interesting selection of rock and pop-rock hits ... Read More:

Trust Vibration Feedback Steering Wheel GM -3400 (PC/PS2)

Isn't just good for the price, is good full stop. Can set controls and sensitivity just in case a game has bad options for those (NFS Pro Street for example assigns R1 and R2 instead of R2 and L2 to changing gear and can't be changed). Whole package works wonders though does take a little getting used to as it's biggest flaw is that there is a slight dead spot in the middle but is easy to get used to and is probably the case in about half of wheels so can't ask for more from it. Brilliant.

... More fun than it should be or could ever be expected. Great humour and it doesn't tarnish the star wars name (unless your a super-star wars movie nerd) As a star wars fan i think i can say that. This is just a really enjoyable game especially if played with a friend.

Need for Speed: Carbon (PS2)

I got Carbon after loving most wanted, thinking it would be just as good if not better. Sadly, I was wrong.
The new race types are cool and the autosculpt feature is brilliant, despite you not being able to autosculpt AND use bodykits.
Graphics are decent and gameplay's good.
BUT. The storyline is fantastic, but it just fizzles out without an ending. Most Wanted had a brilliant finale, but on Carbon you beat the final boss and that's it, no final police chase despite there being an undercover cop in the racer's mist. I hope they'll bring this storyline back and end it properly!
Don't expect too much from this game, it's decent, but that's about it. Make sure you're prepared to be disappointed.

This isn't a review because I haven't played the game, but wanted to point something out that's stopped me buying it myself (please forgive me for rating this game, but amazon won't let me post a 'review' without doing so!)...

Despite what the product description here still says the online servers for this game have now been scrapped, and it's no longer possible to play online whatsoever.

I'm sure it's still a great game, but with no online gameplay (which was what I was really after) I'll be saving my hard-earned cash for MGS4!

Despite the advent of the next gen consoles over the last couple of years there's none the less been spate of quality games brought out for the king of the older generation of games stations the PS2. While the likes of God of War II have been highly lauded others, such as Rogue Galaxy have failed to garner recognition which they deserve.
