I purchased this to replace my (at just 3 years old !) ageing Epson R300 which had leaked ink all over its' insides causing a short circuit which stopped it working, despite having only ever used genuine Epson cartridges, all Epson could offer was to repair it at £70 plus postage !
After studying lots of reviews it was clear that the iP4500 featured here represented just about the best value for money for this type of printer (and from Amazon it cost less than repairing the R300) coupled with one of the highest resolutions of 9600 x 2400.
I am not going to knock the R300 as it had always produced excellent results but the Canon offers the same CD printing facility which works first time every time - Epson users will ... Read More:

Extremely pleased with this purchase. Although I haven't tried every feature yet - printing and copying give excellent results - with decent speed. I like the interface to the features and the facility to feed paper from either a cassette or the rear of machine.
As other reviewers have stated, it takes about 45mins to 1hr to set-up ready for use, but the instructions and software install are easy to follow.
My only gripe and the reason I didn't give 5 stars (would like to give 4 and a half, but that's not possible) is no USB cable is provided to connect to the PC ? Every printer I've ever had previously - provided all the necessary bits - so why can't Canon - especially as it's only a few pounds worth of kit.
That said I do believe this ... Read More:

After having 2 different Epson printers, I was so amazed by the difference between the two. This Canon does not seem to eat ink every time you switch it on. It prints much faster and the prints are also much sharper. Especially when printing photos. Can't really comment on long term ink as I haven't had it long, but so far seems much better than my old epson. I would recommend this printer to anyone.

I have found with both the 339 and 344 HP cartidges that I get a much better deal through buying online than using instore options, saving between 20 and 33%. As a postgraduate student, I was a mid level home user of black ink and found HP printers which use this cartridge to be ideal for my levels of usage.
Since this is an inkjet system then, naturally, this isn't the ultimate best economical/non-replacement system for black ink users. But if you're an average Word-document user who is dependent on their kit's reliability (e.g. someone producing work documents from home without a need for high volume output to justify the extra costs of laser toner), then this is a solid, reliable base for an inkjet system.

I have had this printer for about two weeks weeks and am disappointed by it - perhaps to be expected of a printer that comes at under £20. When it does print it works well, and the pages look good quality, but it seems incapable of printing anything without at least three pop-up messages and a paper jam. The pop-up messages unnecessarily inform me when it is switched on, off (regardless of whether I'm trying to print at the time), and in between that it is "ready", inviting me to buy products online or to go to the HP online customer service section even when there is no reason to and even after I thought I had switched all of these off. The cartridges supplied are only 5ml and are already running low; the last print-out was fine, but when I try to print anything ... Read More:

I use this printer at work for my own use and love it, simple to use and quick, had it running for 2 month now and know it inside out. Thinking of buying it for home use as well now.

It is seems to be a good printer but unless HP can sort out the downloading of Roxio Express Labeler Software for direct printing on CDs and DVDs it will need to be returned. This was the main reason for choosing this model. It appears to be an out of date version of the software anyway. The only way you can upgrade is by buying an expensive package(£40 -£50). The more dealings I have with Roxio the less I trust them

As far as I can see, this printer is PERFECT apart from one thing: I had 2 days of hassle getting my Vista (SP1) PC to print using the 'network' function of this printer. Hopefully what I write here will help somebody somewhere:
============
The install routine went OK, it found my printer on the network (IP address = 192.168.0.8) etc. However, when I tried to print, the job appeared instantly in the print spooler on the PC... but it took about 5 minutes for the printer to actually start whirring! I tried LOADS of things (reboot PC/printer/router, re-install drivers, check for updated drivers on website, disable firewall, change LAN settings, add http://printername to 'trusted zone' in IE... but NOTHING worked. In other words, every time I printed something... it took over ... Read More:

I took delivery of my HP deskjet this morning. It has taken 1.5 hours to get everything up and going. Which in my book is pretty good! I have installed it using the ethernet cable into my wireless router, and then wirelessly onto 2 Windows Vista PCs, one XP PC and one XP Laptop. All 4 computers are connecting to the printer and working fine.
The build and print quality look really good too.
I have had Epsons for the last 20 years but got fed-up of replacing them an an almost annual basis! So this is my first HP printer, and so far I am impressed with the ease of use and setting up on my wireless network.
Had a quick look at ink cartridge costs too, and they appear to be cheaper than the Epson ones.
