VPN pass-through doesn't work, peer-to-peer traffic blocks everything else, incredibly unstable - randomly locks up and prevents access, constantly needs resetting/rebooting. Don't buy this product unless you are prepared to dig around in the source code to fix the firmware yourself, or if you want to shorten your lifespan by giving yourself a stress-induced heart attack. Best use for this product is as a door stop.

This might well be an excellent piece of hardware, I wouldn't know. I mean to say, I ordered, paid for, and received one; as one would expect with Amazon, my order arrived swiftly. I also have Vodafone 3G internet access, which I've had since early September '07. You might think, therefore, as I did, that this was the piece of hardware for me.
You'd be wrong, as was I.
Despite this being marketed as a dedicated Vodafone 3G compatible router (and having the Vodafone logo on its packaging and casing) it does not work with the standard 3G card that authorised Vodafone distributors have been shipping in the UK for more than six months. Having read some reviews, I went straight to the Linksys website and downloaded the latest firmware (available for both version 1 and 2 - mine is a version 2, being recent) and the firmware installation tool. Upgrade to July '07 firmware worked, first go.

I then set the BEFSX41 up as the Internet router on my home LAN. This is very similar to any other Linksys box (like a WRT54G) in the menu structure. Saved settings and all worked well. Does not require a reboot or switch off, if you are familiar with the Windows IPCONFIG /RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW commands (Google them, if not - it will save you time over the years.)
