Nice bit of kit this. My Northbridge chipset fan was noisy when new but my PC is now 3 years old and the fan sounds like soneone drilling. The installation does require you to extract the motherboard to pinch out the existing pins which attach the Northbridge fan but once these are out it's pretty simple to line up and attach the brackets and pins for the new cooler. It comes with thermal paste but you'll need to clean up the old paste on the Northbridge first. Methanol is a great solvent for this. Positioning the cooler can be a bit tricky if you already have a large cooling fan for you CPU but the asymmetric vane arrangement and adjustable brackets permit you to twist the cooler round to fit it in snug against the CPU cooler vanes. Great board for both overclockers and gamers, FSB speeds are insane if you know what you're doing, but requires voltmods if you seriously want to overclock your processor, only 4 phase power so the vdroop is horrendous.

The jumpers are a bit fiddly when enabling both PCI-E slots for crossfire, asus boards switch automatically without the need for jumpers, but at this price i can't grumble.

The board layout is really good from the view of cable management, keeps everything really tidy, my only wish is they had put a fan on the northbridge to keep it a little cooler.

I ran into a compatibility problem with this board, my Compro Videomate E800 wouldn't work, it was detected in windows but the drivers would't install, ... Read More:

The item's title is wrong - should say nForce 560 rather than the inferior 550! Nice easy board to install, and as usual for Gigabyte it is well made. A couple of nice extras include the TI Firewire port and the ability to control the chassis fan in smart mode. The BIOS is intuitive. Only downside for me is the lack of solid electrolytic capacitors in the regulator areas, but since I don't normally keep MoBos for more than 3/4 years, shouldn't be a problem to me! I have used this with an AMD 5200 (the 89W F3 version) and an AMD 5600. Also works very well with Kingston Value RAM (DDR667) and Elixir Value RAM (DDR800). Shame that the Gigabyte automatic update facility is a dud though. Compared to MSI Live Update, the Gigabyte affair is unusable. This board ... Read More:
