Within two weeks of owning this item, I had essentially given up on it. Problems arose pretty much immediately with the interchangable jack: the lead and the interchangeable head come apart far too easily, meaning it's very hard to move the laptop around without the power cutting out (not a problem if you've got a tip-top battery, I suppose... but then that's not the point is it?). More annoying is that in the space of, ooh... the last week? the power randomly cuts out even when the lead is firmly plugged into the back of the laptop. This leads to a frustrating five-ten minutes of the "power lead dance", as the user (me) tries to get the lead into *exactly the right position* in order to get the bloody thing working again. Throw in packaging ... Read More:

For £6.15 from Amazon for a 6-way Belkin surge protector you can't really grumble. Foe £1 more you can get one with a 3m cable but I didn't need one that long
I moved back from the US to the UK with a lot of electrical equipment.
I purchased a few of these units.
Anything electrical , without a motor is generally okay.
If you're running, for example, a motor or a big amplifier, then do some more research to make sure that this is good enough.
I'm down to 2 having tried it with a couple of kitchen-based electrical items, and them hearing a pop, and then smelling burning.
It has uni-directional screws, so if you blow it, you blow it.
Do some internet research to ocnfirm your power requirement - not just the wattage.
If you work it out (I'm still uncertain), then you're on for a cheap winner.
The Maplin version is twice the price and exactly the same.

I have to agree with the other poster. I have previously purchased much cheaper so-called replacement NB-3L batteries which have not even fitted my Ixus, as they were so badly made. The Canon batteries might seem over-priced, but they work and won't invalidate your warranty. Don't waste money on cheap batteries which might damage your camera.
