HP Officejet Pro L7780 Printer

I just bought this printer and have been using it for a few days so I thought I'd write a review of my experiences thus far. I had read a few reviews before purchasing it and was somewhat confused as it had got mixed ones.

Setting up was very easy. By this, I mean I could send a fax within seconds of turning it on, connected it to the home network which only involved putting in the network key etc. The only thing that took me more than 5 minutes to do was to set up the network folders. The instructions included were rubbish really. The unit is a bit slow for scanning loads of pages, ideal if you only intend to scan a few pages a day, heavy use takes time for it to process data. Apart from that quality, price, size its all perfect. :)Definitely recommended

The scanner is light in weight and can scan papers up to size A4. It does not accept thick paper or cardboard.

Installation and set up were very easy (using Windows XP). As for performance, there is sadly not much to recommend it for. After three attempts at scanning photos, I found it too upsetting to continue. The quality of the scanned photos was simply awful. Had the same depressing output using pages from coloured magazines.

Whilst the text scans looked better, the Readiris pro 11 software failed to recognise whole paragraphs, read images as text and failed completely to recognise documents when these were inserted upside down. My first HP A3 printer produced great results but drank ink, this one produces, if anything, even better results but the individual catridges has cut the costs dramatically.

Perfect Photoshop screen image onto the printed page 100% of the time and first time.

HP - G4050 ScanJet Scanner

Having spent some time doing research on different makes and models, I purchased a G4050 based on it's specs. Unfortunately, my excitement was short lived as the first one wouldn't even switch on. So much for HP's quality control!! The replacement turns out to be very good for scanning photos. The dust and scratch removal is quite impressive. However, this scanner is very frustrating when it comes to negatives and slides. It doesn't seem able to crop them at all well and one has to adjust the scanned area of each slide manually. I know that this isn't a dedicated film/slide scanner but I expected better reliability on this front.
