This USB hub, despite its fugly looks, does the job. As you would expect, it was automatically detected by Windows XP and so no driver was needed.

The light display is ridiculous because it repeats the same pattern over and over again and does not reflect its connected devices' I/O.

The light display pissed me off so badly that I destroyed the central flashing light. I now keep the device upside down.

This is a decent device though remember that you are getting 7 USB ports for a very cheap price.

I bought two of these for my friends for Christmas as more of a novelty gift than anything, but soon found out that the usb ports didn't work on my laptop. I tried it on three other laptops and got the same error message - "usb device has malfunctioned". This was not good as I knew one of my friends needed a hub which is why I got him it.

The usb hubs are not faulty - both of them work on my desktop pc.
But since both my friends have laptops this was not enough.

Also, the hub is only USB1.1 so don't expect it to work with all newer USB devices or give you very high speeds for pendrives.

The warmer works OK on all my laptops and desktops and for 5Volts it provides good enough heat.
