Scrabble Dictionary (Collins GEM)

On the face of it a handy Gem-size Scrabble dictionary with definitions sounds like a good idea, especially for travelling Scrabble players but, prompted by comments in another review, I took a careful look at the content. There appears to have been very little lexicographical editorial control. A few examples:
Included letter names: AR EF; Excldued letter names: EM EN ES
Included Greek letters: ALPHA GAMMA CHI; Excluded Greek letters: BETA PHI
Included Interjections: AH HI OI UM - excluded interjections AW EH ER.
XI and XU are mentioned in an introduction but are not listed.. and so on.
The Chambers Family Dictionary is a much better book for family Scrabble.

Scrabble Turntable

Just to say the turntable arrived toady and I can only say that it works perfectly. Perhaps it has been redesigned in view of the poor reviews about it not being big enough for the board. I am delighted to say mine is perfect and makes the game so much easier to play.

Monopoly

I find the naivety of the "I lost because I rolled a 4..." comment startling.

I loved this game as a child and played it often, I now have children of my own and we play it. In all the hundreds of games I have played over the years only a very small percentage was bad luck the deciding factor in the game and I cannot think of a single game when a game was won because of good-luck. There is an element of chance in the game but there is far and away more skill and strategy than chance.

Any player that is out because he rolled a 4 rather than a 5 had probably lost the game a long time ago and that was just the killing blow. Perhaps he had overstretched and was caught out or perhaps another player had risked his fortune by ... Read More:

Collins Scrabble Dictionary

This book seems to be exactly as described, and is perfect for UK Scrabble words. Bear in mind that this is not a comprehensive dictionary in so far as only words upto nine letters are included, and the descriptions are short. However it is great for Scrabble, and crucially includes all variations of a word such as plural, different tense etc. Fully worth the money!

This is ( in my opinion ) one of the greatest board games ever. It is so enjoyable and it is very educational because you really have to strain your brain if you want to do well. I reccomend this and Monopoly as the two greatest board games.

The game is played like this, somebody has been murdered and each player gets a group of cards and then 3 unknown cards are put in a package in the middle. The aim is to find out what those cards are, they must be a person, a weapon, and the room the murder was commited in. At the players turn he/she rolls the dice and then can go into one of the rooms, they can then say, for example 'I suspect colonel mustard, in the drawing room, with the candle stick', the room they say must be the room they are in. Jenga

Come on now - its Jenga.

Its a game for heavy fun with friends that is guranteed to produce many laughs, perhaps a few minor arguments and a tad of frustration.

But overall, great fun and boy its got to be in your games cupboard.
